15. Step 6 – Vacuum dust from motherboard and CPU fan/heatsink Carefully Vacuum ALL dust from the motherboard especially the vents in the top right-hand corner where the CPU fan sucks in air. Step 7 – Clean existing thermal paste from the CPU Using a non-abrasive cloth (so you don’t scratch the CPU), apply some CPU cleaning solution to a cloth and carefully clean away ALL existing thermal paste. Apply a small piece of paste to the centre of the CPU and carefully smooth-out the paste equally across the top of the CPU using a business card to create a thin layer.
