21. Definition - Software
… is a collection of computer programs, procedures, rules, and associated
documentation and data.
Characteristics
It is developed or engineered, not manufactured in the classical sense.
It doesn’t “wear out”.
Most of the time it is custom built, not assembled from existing components
22. Definition - Software Engineering
Software Engineering is the systematic approach to the development , operation ,
maintenance , and retirement of software. [IEEE87]
29. Agile Manifesto principles
1.Our highest priority is to satisfy the customer through early and continuous
delivery of valuable software.
2.Welcome changing requirements, even late in development. Agile processes
harness change for the customer's competitive advantage.
3.Deliver working software frequently, from a couple of weeks to a couple of
months, with a preference for the shorter timescale.
4.Business people and developers must work together daily throughout the
project.
30. Agile Manifesto principles
5.Build projects around motivated individuals. Give them the environment and
support they need, and trust them to get the job done.
6.The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and
within a development team is face-to-face conversation.
7.Working software is the primary measure of progress.
8.Agile processes promote sustainable development. The sponsors,
developers, and users should be able to maintain a constant pace indefinitely.
31. Agile Manifesto principles
9.Continuous attention to technical excellence and good design enhances
agility.
10.Simplicity—the art of maximizing the amount of work not done—is
essential.
11.The best architectures, requirements, and designs emerge from
self-organizing teams.
12.At regular intervals, the team reflects on how to become more effective,
then tunes and adjusts its behavior accordingly.
37. Scrum
● Scrum (n): A framework within which people can address
complex adaptive problems, while productively and creatively
delivering products of the highest possible value.
● Scrum is a framework for developing and sustaining complex
products
○ consists of Scrum’s roles, events, artifacts, and the rules that
bind them together.
56. Kanban is a method for managing the
creation of products with an emphasis
on continual delivery while not
overburdening the development team.
Like Scrum, Kanban is a process
designed to help teams work together
more effectively.
57. …derived from Toyota Production System (TPS)
and LEAN
The word kanban is Japanese and roughly
translated means “card you can see.”
58. Visualize the workflow.
Limit WIP
Manage flow
Make Process Policies
Explicit
Improve Collaboratively
Stop starting …
Start finishing.
65. ProcessWhirl - Our story
ProcessWhirl was started in 2011 in India by team of people with background in
engineering, marketing, software and statistics who all shared a deep passion of for
quality.
Kishore the founder felt the need to educate organizations and people around importance of
quality, while working with a PVC pipe manufacturer as a trainee during his masters in
Quality and Reliability, where an uncalibrated instruments were used to assess the quality of
the PVC pipes used for supplying drinking water. A meeting with CEO, not only resulted in the
calibration of instruments, training to staff but a personal note of thanks from CEO for
educating him and his team.
ProcessWhirl is the result of that intention.
Our purpose is to educate and empower people and organisations for excellence.
Currently we serve customers in India, UK, USA
