Their approach is to partner with local non-profit
organizations and charities that are making a difference,
supporting government initiatives and promoting local
culture, and we remain involved in the projects we support.
As part of the HSBC 150th year celebration, in 2015, HSBC
allocated USD 150 million for community projects around the
world. These are the projects from the Middle East. The
projects include building children’s shelter at Dubai
foundation for women and children, building community
schools in Egypt, interactive training room at the American
university of Sharjah.
United Kingdom
Shell PLC
Started in 2000, with an initial endowment of
250 million dollars from shell group. Annually
donates $15 million. It has 6 main programs,
“Aspire”, “Breathing Space”, “EMBARQ”,
“EXCELERATE”, “Trading Up” and Climate
Change. It had also started an initiative “GACC”
to tackle harmful smoke caused by open
fires or inefficient stoves and for that had
committed $6million over 3 years.
British Petroleum
With well-established operations spanning all continents, BP is a
leading integrated oil and gascompany engaged in providing
“customers with fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light,
lubricants to keep engines moving and petrochemicals used to make
everyday items as diverse as paints, clothes and packaging”. BP’s
stated commitments to CSR include :
(1) supporting communities’ efforts to increase income and improve
standards of living, (2) striving to be a world-class operator, a
responsible corporate citizen and a good employer,
(3) working to avoid, minimize and mitigate environmental impacts in its
areas of operations, (4) engaging in joint venture partnerships with other
companies to address carbon and climate risk, (5) empowering
employees, and (6) investing in alternative energies.
Rio Tinto
Rio Tinto is a leading international player in the industry of mining. The
one line slogan in Rio Tinto with respect to corporate social responsibility
is “The Way We Work”. Rio Tinto as acompany has drafted a series of
activities for the society engagement. the main source for corporate
social responsibility activities in Rio Tinto is the NGO Method where the
NGOs understand the need and relevance of Rio Tinto’s core business
issues. The best example ofpartnership activities by Rio Tinto for
corporate social responsibility is the approach for the biodiversity
conservation. Rio Tinto Management with stake holders discussed on the
biodiversity issues and decided to partner with Earthwatch Institute and
in 1993 build the fellowship program where it attached its 24 Employees
in the program. The Next corporate social responsibility activity example
which Rio Tinto got responsible for is the Botanical diversity in the rain
forest of Cameroon and conservation rain forest of Indonesia.
Lloyd Banking
Lloyds Bank plc is a British retail and
commercial bank with branches across
England and Wales. It has traditionally been
considered one of the "Big Four" clearing
banks. Lloyd's Charities Trust has been
providing charitable support to a wide range
of local, national, and international charities
on behalf of the Lloyd's market for over 60
years. Lloyd's charity support dates back
200 years, both in the UK and abroad. The
Lloyd's Together programme, which was
launched in early 2015, serves as a
framework for our global offices' community
and charitable activities.
Unilever
Unilever products include food, condiments, bottled water,
baby food, soft drink, ice cream, instant coffee, cleaning
agents, energy drink, toothpaste, pet food, pharmaceutical
and consumer healthcare products, tea, breakfast cereals,
beauty products, and personal care. Unilever in India works
by the name of “HUL”. Hindustan Unilever Limited works on
the basis of The Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) which
envisages to decouple the company’s growth from its
environmental footprint and increase its societal impact. The
plan was launched in 2010. The 3 big goals of USLP include:
Improving health and well being for more than 1 billion people,
reducing environmental impact by half and enhancing
livelihoods for millions.
Barclays
Barclays is a British multinational investment bank and financial
services company, headquartered in London, England. Apart from
investment banking, Barclays is organized into four core businesses:
personal banking, corporate banking, wealth management, and
investment management. The company had launched “Global Youth
Employability Programme” in India with the objective to provide
employment enhancing training to students to help them be job-
ready. This will help the beneficiaries in improving their employability
and improve their prospects economically. Another initiative was
“Matched Fundraising Programme” in which The Company’s global
parent intends to match contributions made for a cause supported
by their employees. This would help the beneficiaries in attaining
their objectives as a charitable organization.
Vodafone
Vodafone Ghana Foundation, the charity arm of Vodafone
Ghana located in west africa was launched in 2009 to support
sustainable initiatives that drive social change, improve
people’s lives and solve pressing social needs. At the
Vodafone Ghana Foundation we believe that mobile
communications can help address some of the world’s
compelling humanitarian needs and improve living conditions.
The vision of the Foundation is ‘To be regarded as the most
caring Telco brand in Ghana, by empowering and giving access
to tools and facilities that support sustainable social change.
Key projects include: Healthline, Instant Schools and Charitable
donations.
GSK Pharma
At GSK Pharma, their approach to CSR supports their purpose to help
people do more, feel better and live longer. GlaxoSmithKline CEO
Andrew Witty was named Individual Leader of the Year at the Ethical
Corporation Responsible Business Summit 2010. Awards for CSR were
relatively uncommon during that time when Andrew Witty had won.
Under Witty’s leadership, GSK had substantially reduced the price of its
patented medicines in the least developed countries (LDCs) to 25% of
developed world prices. As part of an effort to provide sustainable
long-term funding to LDCs, GSK reinvests 20% of its profits from sales
of medicines in those countries to support the strengthening of
healthcare infrastructure. GSK also recently launched a GSK Scholars
Programme to provide financial assistance to meritorious and
financially constrained MBBS students to continue their education.
Sainsbury
Sainsbury plc is one of the leading food retail in the UK and has been able
to establish interest in non-food and financial services. The group is made
up of server chains supermarket called Sainsbury’s supermarket, Bells
stores, Jacksons Stores, and Sainsbury Banks. They have prepared a “Plan
for Better” which sets out their sustainability goals across their whole
business outlining their priority areas of focus, their key commitments and
their progress. The “Plan for Better” has 3 interlocking pillars; Better for
you, Better for the planet and Better for everyone. They recently ramped
up removal of single-use plastic lids, saving 71 million pieces of plastic
annually. They further switched all coffee pods from plastic to aluminum,
saving over 10 million pieces of plastic each year. They also fundraise and
donate a lot to various charities. They have donated 6.2 million meals
through a partnership with Neighbourly since 2021. They raised 38.4
million pounds in 2021-22.
Germany
BOSCH
BOSCH aims to improve people's quality of life and protect
the livelihoods of present and future generations by acting in
an economically, environmentally, and socially responsible
manner. It aims to make renewable energy more affordable
and mobility safer, cleaner, and more cost-effective, as well
as to develop environmentally friendly products across the
board. The "Sustainability 2025" target vision concretizes this
ambition. These objectives, derived from BOSCH's
megatrends and materiality analysis findings, serve as the
framework for the company's activities in the coming years.
ALLIANZ
Allianz is a German multinational financial services company headquartered
in Munich, Germany. Its core businesses are insurance and asset
management. The Allianz Group, internationally, expresses its commitment to
sustainability and corporate social responsibility through three main pillars:
the promotion of a low-carbon economy, social inclusion (particularly with
the “encouraging future generations” initiative), and the integration of ESG
(environment, social and governance) principles into the insurance and asset
management business. In relation to Citizenship, with a focus on Diversity &
Inclusion, the company believes that diversities are fundamental to growth
and innovation, developing different initiatives inside and outside the
organization, in support of young people, via education, environment,
diversities in terms of gender equality, but also in terms of disabilities. Some
of its initiatives in the field of Diversity and Inclusion include Obiettivo3,
ActionAid, COSA, AzzeroCO2. Talking about Africa, the Allianz Group has
significantly strengthened its climate protection strategy and stated its
intention to actively support the global transition to a low-carbon economy
over the next few decades.
Siemens provides relevant products and solutions to entities in
need in order to contribute knowledge, experience, and
technological assistance. Siemens aspires to be the world's first
major industrial company to achieve a carbon footprint of zero by
2030. Between 2014 and 2020, the company reduced its own
value chain's carbon footprint by 54%, meeting its interim goal of
cutting CO2 emissions in half. Seimens takes initiative by
organising various environmental protection activities, supporting
the development of non-governmental organisations, providing
social assistance to disadvantaged groups, and providing
immediate technological and humanitarian assistance in the event
of natural disasters.
Siemens CN
Merck
Merck has developed a pilot project to create an innovative
pharmacy out of shipping containers for Africa's rural regions that
lack pharmacy access. The 40-foot container with a floor space of
30 square metres provides a secure supply of medicines to Africa's
rural regions. The container pharmacy can be transported by truck
to rural areas and set up with minimal effort. The atmospheric
water generator is powered by solar energy and includes a high-
tech condenser, a compressor, and several filters. Even in the driest
desert regions, the air contains some humidity, so the water
generator can provide an adequate supply of clean drinking water
to the pharmacy

Audi has a vision of sustainable mobility that everyone can use with a
clear conscience. That is why the company goes beyond manufacturing
premium vehicles and offering innovative mobility solutions: Audi also
takes responsibility for the future of our planet. In other words, for how we
must shape the environment, the economy and society so that future
generations can also live well. The company considers sustainability in all
its facets. Besides ecological and economic aspects, social sustainability
is also of great importance. To ensure that its commitment makes a
significant contribution to society, Audi follows three principles: Engage,
Educate and Empower. Engage covers volunteering and donations,
encompasses social sponsorship, events, cooperations with non-profit
organizations and the promotion of projects with a positive social impact.
Educate: Audi cooperates with numerous national and international
universities to help shape progress in research and teaching. Empower:
Audi empowers other players to make the world as a whole more
sustainable. These include employees, customers and other stakeholders.
MUNICH RE
Munich Re is a leading global provider of reinsurance, primary
insurance and insurance-related risk solutions. Munich Re
approaches risk management in a proactive, prudent, and
responsible manner. Munich Re has created long-term value by
assuming a diverse range of risks around the world for over 135
years. We are confident that through long-term action, this
business concept will continue to be successful. This approach is
founded on responsible corporate governance that balances
economic, environmental, and social needs. Methods used: Solar
Plant Employees Climate-related transparency Responsible use
of digitalization in the insurance industry
BASF
BASF SE is a German multinational chemical company and the
largest chemical producer in the world. BASF aspires to
contribute to a world that offers a viable future with improved
quality of life for all. BASF does this in the UAE by developing
chemistry for its customers and supporting various Corporate
Social Responsibility projects.
Initiatives implemented:
• Training Emirati Spray Painters
• Young Future Energy Leaders
• Chemgeneration Hothouse Challenge at the Solar Decathlon
• Building an answer to climate change
• BASF in 2017's Year of Giving initiative
SCHWARZ
The Schwarz Group is a family-owned multinational retail group that
operates grocery shops under the Lidl and Kaufland brands. It is the
largest European retailer and the fourth-largest retailer in the world
by revenue. To commemorate World Cleanup Day on September 16,
2022, more than 1000 Schwarz Group employees demonstrated their
commitment to greater environmental protection. As part of our
REset Plastic plastics strategy, the Schwarz Group decided to set
ambitious targets for 2025. We are pursuing these goals as a group,
never losing sight of our ultimate goal: Less Plastic - Closed Loops.
The Schwarz Group regularly initiates and organises campaigns in
which employees advocate for less environmental waste. The
Schwarz Group has created a completely new and regional raw
material source for the paper industry based on the silphia plant.
MERCEDES BENZ
Mercedes-Benz focuses on providing quality education to the
underprivileged students from nearby communities.

BMW
The LIFE concept is a collaborative project between the BMW
Group and Bavaria's State Institute for School Quality and
Educational Research that introduces school children to
foreign languages, international literature and culture in a fun
way, using a variety of learning content. At the BMW Group
Junior Campus, children and teenagers learn about traffic,
road safety, and sustainability and explore safe,
environmentally friendly solutions for future mobility. BMW
has a special programme called Safe on the Streets (SoTS) to
instruct seven to 11-year-olds in road-safety basics. It teaches
schoolchildren valuable lessons about road safety and helps
them learn to get around by themselves.
NETHERLANDS
ASML HOLDINGS
ASML has created the ‘ASML Foundation’ which focuses
on the UN’s fourth Sustainable Development Goal: to
ensure inclusive and quality education for all and
promote lifelong learning. It aims to increase the self-
sufficiency of disadvantaged children through
educational initiatives that develop their talents and help
unlock their potential. Their projects include: ‘Roger That’
Inspiration Lab for Strengthening the mental resilience of
young people, ‘techmeup’ for making tech education
accessible, ‘Girls can do IT’ for bringing more gender
equality to STEM and various other projects. They
support around 20 projects focused on education for
young people in need every year.
AIRBUS
Airbus is a global pioneer in the aerospace industry, operating in the
commercial aircraft, helicopters, defence and space sectors.
CSR Activities: Promoting human rights and celebrating diversity.
More than 140 countries are now represented in their workforce. The
company is working to create an inclusive workplace where everyone
can reach their full potential. They have a recurring goal of recruiting
30% women and having 25% of executive positions held by women by
2025.
Respecting the planet through decarbonization. Fleet renewal.
Continuous innovation. Pioneering cleaner propulsion
technologies like sustainable aviation fuel and hydrogen. These are
just some of the ways that the company’s latest generation of aircraft
and helicopters are helping them to set the standard for clean
aerospace.
ING Group
It is an Amsterdam-based multinational banking and financial
services corporation. Retail banking, direct banking, commercial
banking, investment banking, wholesale banking, private banking,
asset management, and insurance services are its primary
businesses. It's CSR Activities include Making the difference for
biodiversity, Understand the impacts and dependencies on
nature and biodiversity in our portfolio. Engage with targeted
clients to put in place no-deforestation and no-ecosystem
conversion commitments and policies and to work towards full
traceability in their supply chains and Help our clients find
opportunities to do business in a way that respects nature.
IKEA
The Swedish furniture firm is registered in the Netherlands, with
its headquarters in Delft. With 12 stores across the country, it
employs approximately 6,000 people and provides a pleasant
working environment.
CSR Activities:
Empowering and educating workers - Beginning in January 2015,
IKEA implemented a new hourly wage that is based on the needs
of the workers rather than the market standard.
Addressing issues of gender equality and minorities - Every year
on May 17, the company observed IDAHOT, the International Day
Against Transphobia, Homophobia, and Biphobia, in order to
advocate for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and
people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
Reducing energy consumption - IKEA strives to reduce energy
consumption, with the goal of becoming energy positive this year.
Their current accomplishments include having 700,000 solar
panels installed in their buildings and owning and operating 327
wind turbines worldwide.
Booking.com
The online travel reservations company has its global
headquarters in Amsterdam. It employs a diverse workforce of
4,000 in Amsterdam.
CSR Activities:
Booking Cares, the company's CSR activity driven by their
largest business, Booking.com, is focused on transforming the
global travel experience into a powerful force for good through a
series of bold initiatives that support and scale sustainable
tourism — Booking Booster, Booking Cares Fund, Booking Cares
Labs, and Cares Volunteers. The Booking Booster programme
promotes innovation in the sustainable tourism industry by
providing start-ups with the tools, skills, resources, and
networks needed to effect long-term change.
Philips
It is a Dutch multinational conglomerate corporation founded in 1891
in Eindhoven. It has been primarily headquartered in Amsterdam
since 1997. The Philips Foundation's mission is to reduce healthcare
inequality by providing disadvantaged communities with access to
quality healthcare. It strives to fulfil this mission by leveraging
Philips' expertise, integrated services and solutions, and innovative
collaborations with key partners worldwide. The company has a long
history of diversity and inclusion. Philips' employment scheme in the
Netherlands has actively enabled people excluded from the labour
market to integrate into the workplace for the last 30 years. The
company already has programs in place that offer refugees training
and mentoring support, and is committed to integrating refugees
into its own workforce.
Heineken
It is the market leader in the development and marketing of
premium beer and cider brands. The Group, led by the
Heineken® brand, has a portfolio of over 300 international,
regional, local, and specialty beers and ciders. Talking about
it's CSR, Heineken beer sold in the Dutch market is now
brewed entirely with green energy that is through the use of
wind turbines, solar panels, and biogas. Heineken aims to be
fully circular in the Netherlands by 2030, with carbon-neutral
breweries. It began brewing Heineken with 100% green energy
for the Dutch market last month, covering all product and
packaging variants under the brand, including Heineken 0.0.
Unilever
Unilever products include food, condiments, bottled

CSR Activities: Improve people’s health, confidence and
wellbeing. Unilever has set clear goals on reformulating
their products to reduce salt, sugar and calories and
aiming for 70% of their portfolio to meet WHO aligned
nutritional standards. They are providing more plant
based meat and diary alternatives and tackling the
important issues of food loss and waste.
CISCO
The networking equipment company has its EMEAR (Europe,
Middle East, Africa and Russia) headquarters in south-east
Amsterdam. They had pledged in 2015 to positively impact 1 billion
people by the year 2025 and they have reached more than 70
percent of the goal.
CSR Activities:
Cisco and the Cisco Foundation's social impact grants to nonprofit
organizations support early-phase, technology-based solutions that
serve underrepresented and vulnerable populations. Further they
support programs and solutions focused on disaster relief, food
insecurity, housing, and clean water. They build digital skills, expand
access to quality education, and promote STEM. They also invest in
technology solutions that help underserved people gain financial
independence.
Netflix
The growing US media-services provider has its EMEA headquarters
in Amsterdam. It offers positions in a ‘dynamic, fast-paced
environment’
CSR Activities:
Delivered emission reductions: The co. reduced or avoided more than
14,000 MT of greenhouse gas emissions. This translates to cutting the
footprint by 10%, Several projects contributed to this, working with
utilities, landlords, and streaming partners to switch to renewable
electricity, swapping in renewable diesel on productions, trialing EVs,
replacing diesel generators with mobile batteries or hydrogen power
units, and buying sustainable aviation fuel.
Designed our 2030 decarbonization roadmap as part of their low
carbon transition planning process. This includes setting milestones
for internal decarbonization that allow them to meet their 2030
science-based emission reduction target.

HSBC Their approach is to partner with local non-profit organizations and charities that are making a difference, supporting government initiatives and promoting local culture, and we remain involved in the projects we support. As part of the HSBC 150th year celebration, in 2015, HSBC allocated USD 150 million for community projects around the world. These are the projects from the Middle East. The projects include building children’s shelter at Dubai foundation for women and children, building community schools in Egypt, interactive training room at the American university of Sharjah. It has 6 main programs, “Aspire”, “Breathing Space”, “EMBARQ”, “EXCELERATE”, “Trading Up” and Climate Change. It had also started an initiative “GACC” to tackle harmful smoke caused by open fires or inefficient stoves and for that had committed $6million over 3 years.

Under Witty’s leadership, GSK had substantially reduced the price of its patented medicines in the least developed countries (LDCs) to 25% of developed world prices. The group is made up of server chains supermarket called Sainsbury’s supermarket, Bells stores, Jacksons Stores, and Sainsbury Banks. They have prepared a “Plan for Better” which sets out their sustainability goals across their whole business outlining their priority areas of focus, their key commitments and their progress. The “Plan for Better” has 3 interlocking pillars; Better for you, Better for the planet and Better for everyone. They recently ramped up removal of single-use plastic lids, saving 71 million pieces of plastic annually. They further switched all coffee pods from plastic to aluminum, saving over 10 million pieces of plastic each year. They also fundraise and donate a lot to various charities. They have donated 6.2 million meals through a partnership with Neighbourly since 2021. They raised 38.4 million pounds in 2021-22.
