Introduction to Cloud
“The practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet
to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server”
-- Google Definition
3
Service Models
 IaaS - Infrastructure as a Service
 Ex: Amazon, Rackspace
 PaaS - Platform as a Service
 Ex: GoogleAppEngine
 SaaS - Software as a Service
 Ex: Google Docs
4
Deployment Models
 Private Cloud
 Public Cloud
 Hybrid Cloud
5
• Proceed in use of computing services.
• On demand resources and pay as you go service.
• Access the OS facility from anywhere, through
any device.
• In order for the user to effectively control all of
this computational power, We need an operating
system for these new hardware platforms.
Why Do You Need A Cloud OS ..?
6
 A Cloud Operating System is a type of Operating
System designed to operate within Cloud
Computing and Virtualization environment.
 Cloud operating system is a “Browser Based
Operating System” which will manage the Cloud
Resources through internet.

• Cloud Operating Systems:
– Chromium OS
– Ubuntu Enterprise OS
• And Web-Based Cloud Operating Systems
Current Cloud Operating Systems
9
• iCloud
• eyeOS
• Glide OS
• g.ho.st
• Own Cloud
Web-Based Cloud Operating Systems
10
Advantages
 Low Cost Solution
 Device and location independence service
 Multi-tenant architecture
 Centralization
 Utilization and efficiency
 Rapid Scalability
11
Disadvantages Of Cloud Computing
 Stored data might not be secure
 Dependent on internet connection
 It’s not platform agnostic
 Can be slow

Conclusion
• Web based Operating Systems evolution will
reduce the computation cost.
• It will lead to Evolution of thin client.
• One operating System can be accessed
through many devices.

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. Stored data might not be secure: With cloud computing, all your data is stored on the cloud. How secure is the cloud? Can unauthorized users gain access to your confidential data? Cloud computing companies say that data is secure, but it's too early in the game to be completely sure of that. Dependent on internet connection: Internet connectivity isn’t completely stable and reliable. For cloud computing to be completely accessible anywhere, we’ll probably need to wait a few more years for the internet service providers to step up to the plate. It’s not platform agnostic: Most clouds force participants to rely on a single platform or host only one type of product.  If you need to support multiple platforms, as most enterprises do, then you’re looking at multiple clouds. That can be a nightmare to manage. Can be slow: Even on a fast connection, web-based applications can sometimes be slower than accessing a similar software program on your desktop PC.
