STARSHIP
The SpaceX Starship
system is a proposed fully
reusable, two-stage-to-
orbit super heavy-lift
launch vehicle under
development by SpaceX.
The system is composed
of a booster stage, named
Super Heavy, and a
second stage, also
referred to as "Starship".
Starship development
began in 2016 as a self-
funded private spaceflight
project.
On March 3 2021, SpaceX
successfully conducted a
soft landing for Starship
prototype SN10 during a
test flight.
By 2023 it has the mission
to establish a small
colony on Mars.
History
• Starship concept was in discussion since 2012
by CEO SpaceX “ELON MUSK”.
• It was first called as “Mars System
Architecture” but after some time it was called
as “Mars Colonial Transporter” and later in
2016 it was name as “Interpalnetary Transport
System”.
• The Starship was first being constructed out of
carbon fiber but later it was shifted to
Stainless Steel .
• Starship made its first initai flight test in JULY
2019and second flight in AUGUST 2019.
LAUNCH OF
STARSHIP SN10
Starship sn10 Specsheet
• HEIGHT = 120m (390ft)
• MASS = 5000 ton (with payload)
• STAGES = 2 STAGES
• MISSION = MARS COLONIZATION
• SPACE TOURISM
• MULTIPANETARY TRANSPORT
• COST PER
• LAUNCH = US $ 2 MILLION
• ENGINES = 28 RAPTOR ENGINE
• THRUST = 76000kN
FIRST STAGE (SUPER HEAVY)
• Three cores make up the first
stage of Starship. The side
cores, or boosters, are
connected at the base and at the
top of the center core’s liquid
oxygen tank. The three cores,
generate 76000 kN of thrust at
liftoff. Shortly after liftoff the
center core engines are
throttled down. After the side
cores separate, the center core
engines throttle back up to full
thrust.
CORES OF
BOOSTERS
SECOND STAGE
(LANDING)
Starship boosters are inspired by
falcon heavy so they can land back on
the earth
The boosters are separated from the
rocket after giving the rocket the
upliftment required.
The boosters then fall to the ground
and while falling the engine starts
and there is a landing of the boosters.
Second Stage
ADVANTAGES
It is a reusable launch vehicle.
The cost is being reduced by 40
percent.
It offers an integrated payload
section and is capable of carrying
passengers and cargo to Earth
orbit
Disadvantages
Starship vehicle design has been
criticized for not adequately protecting
astronauts from ionizing radiation on
Mars.
The passangers can cause cancer due to
the Radiation.
Risky project
conclusion
It is a reusable
launch
vehicle.
Cost efficient
launch
vehicle.
Space
Tourism.
