•Basmati rice is region specific and can be grown in places where
matching climatic conditions, soil quality and temperature exist and this
happens only in Himalayan region.
•In 1997 Rice Tec Inc. obtained a US patent for the name of their variety
of aromatic rice as ‘Basmati’
•The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act,
1999 of India” which gives the prevention to any rice grown outside of
the Himalayan region from being called Basmati.
•Turkey's exports to the European Union are mostly machinery and
transport equipment, followed by manufactured goods.
•Imports into Turkey come from the following key markets:- the
European Union, Russia, China, USA, Iran and South Korea.

Review of Literature
1. G. Raghuram & V. N. Asopa 2008)
Rice is exported in two varieties, basmati (arom tic) and non-basmati. The basmati rice
exports are in three categories: white, brown and parboiled.
2. N. Shobha Rani
Basmati, the unique aromatic quality rice is a nature’s gift to Indian sub-continent.
Epicureans acclaimed its delightful fragrance, taste and texture which makes it the
best among the aromatic rices of the world.
3. (Rohit Anand, 2012)
Basmati is the champagne of rice. And like champagne, it has a legally enforced
regional denomination. Basmati can only be produced in India and a small part of
Pakistan. Basmati rice has distinctive and pleasant aromas, long slender grains, and
on cooking sees both extreme grain elongation and dry fluffy texture.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
•To determine the export trend of Basmati Rice to Turkey
from past 19 years.
•To determine the percentage increase in actual and trend
value with respect to the total export value of past 19
years.
PROJECT METHODOLOGY ADOPTED
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study adopts exploratory research by using secondary data
as the research methodology. This study proposes a positive
approach as the research plan for data collection and analysis.
The data collected will be used for supporting the findings,
interpretations and fulfillment of the objectives of the study.
DATA COLLECTION
Sampling Technique that is used in this research will be convenience
sampling. EXCEL IS USED AND LEAST SQUARE METHOD FOR
ANALYZING THE DATA.

RESULT OF THE DATA BY USING LEAST SQUARE METHOD IS AS
FOLLOWS:
SWOT ANALYSIS
Strengths
1. Availability in wide range of packaging across all
variants.
2. Availability at 100,000 retailers in India along with
modern format stores such as Walmart, Carrefour, Big
Bazaar, and Spencer’s Retail etc.
Weaknesses
1. Lack of marketing leads to poor brand recall among
consumers
2. Overdependence on rice farmers for supply of raw rice
Opportunities
1. Use of high quality rice in preparations of delicacies
such as banana bread, Spanish rice, oat meals etc
will increase the export demand
2. India is one of the fastest growing food markets in
the world which presents a huge opportunity
Threats
1. Any change in the consumption pattern of Basmati
rice or reduction in demand could adversely affect
profitability
2. Removal of minimum export price cap from export
of basmati rice may invite new competitors
FINDINGS
•We found trend equation (Y=173.3637+261.9056X) of the Basmati Rice
export to Turkey.
•We obtained trend value by putting the value of X in the trend equation.
According the analysis it is observed that the value of export increases
with the coming years. The graph shows an upward sloping linear line
which indicates a good growth in trend.
•We also determine the future trend of next 21 years just to see will the
trend change over the next 21 years but according to the result it will not
change and this is shown clearly in the graph by an upward sloping linear
line.
•As we can see that there was a significant drop in export from India in
the year 1999-2000 and that is due to the reason of Kargil happened
between India & Pakistan.
•There was a depression in the year 2006-08, since this was the reason
why the export to Turkey had dipped in that phase also.
RECOMMENDATIONS
 Government should provide subsidiaries to the companies producing
basmati so that it will increase profits and decrease amount of
expenses in terms of producing and contribute significantly towards
the export earnings of the country.
 we can recommend that there is good scope in terms of exporting to
Turkey and since there is a competition in this field the government
should relax their policies and should start supporting the medium
firms.
