2. We all react differently to change –
Some of us are excited by new experiences –
Some – not so much!
It’s important to remember that your child takes
his/her cues from you!
3. Speak positively about your child’s new
grade and teacher. If you have doubts,
wait until your child has had the chance
to get comfortable in their new
classroom. Then speak with the teacher
about any concerns.
Expressing your own concerns in front of
your child only raises their anxiety.
4. As C Track and D Track students at a year-
round school, such as Clara Barton, your
child may have only a week off between
grade levels. Let them relax and enjoy that
time.
A Track and B Track students have a longer
break between school years. Some reading
and math review, perhaps using computer
games, is sufficient to keep their skills up.
ALL kids need a break.
5. Your teacher’s website will let you know what they
expect your child to have at school.
If the teacher does not have a website, you will
receive that information at Back-to-School Night.
Have your child help you pick out and organize
their materials.
6. You may tour the campus by making an
appointment at the front office. We are a large
school and can be overwhelming to a new
student.
Make sure your child knows where you will be
picking them up!! We have multiple exits points.
But, don’t worry, staff will make sure your child goes
to the front office if they do not find you after
school.
7. Back-to-School Night gives parents a
chance to learn about a teacher’s
program and expectations. It is a great
opportunity to develop a personal
connection to your child’s teacher.
8. Teachers have a limited time to prepare
their classrooms for the new school year.
Please respect that time – if you would
like to set up an appointment with your
child’s new teacher, you may do so at
our Back-to-School Night held the first
week of school.
9. At Clara Barton, we welcome our parent
involvement with the many activities and
events planned throughout the year.
Many of these are held in the evening
and/or Saturday.
Watch for information throughout the
year on ways you can become involved
at Clara Barton Elementary School!

10. This is a big transition – know that Barton kids are
well-prepared for Middle School. Though your
child will have multiple teachers, the suggestions
in the previous slides apply here, too!.
In addition, make sure your child gets involved
with an extra-curricular activity. Your child will
make new connections and may develop life-
long interests. Studies have shown that students
involved in activities do better overall in school!
