The first step in keeping your dog healthy is to provide the right
food.

7. 3.MAKE SURE YOUR CURRENT DOG IS DOG-
FRIENDLY AND WELL TRAINED
Before adding second dog, train your first dog to be calm and welcoming.
Take him/her to dog parks to meet other dogs to get familiar with them.
For showing good behavior, give your dog a treat every time.
If your current dog has any bad habits like barking, noshing creating mess in
the house, there is a possibility that your second dog may pick those habits.
8. 4. GET A DOG THAT WILL BE
COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR
CURRENT DOG
9. 4. GET A DOG THAT WILL BE COMPATIBLE
WITH YOUR CURRENT DOG
To minimize the risk of fighting, get a dog of a different
size and age from the one you currently have.
Make sure there isn't much difference in age.
The preferred age difference would be around 1 to 2
years.
11. 5. INTRODUCING THE DOGS
For introduction, both the dogs should be lashed from opposite side.
Watch their body language.
Sometimes they are a little tensed and alert or act playful.
Sometimes they are filled with aggression , bark continuously and snap at each
other.
You need to take care of all these points while introducing them so that they
behave themselves and feel like family afterwards.
.
13. 6. A SECOND DOG OF THE OPPOSITE SEX MIGHT
BE BEST.
Studies suggest that dogs of same sex are around 70% more likely to fight.
Look for the dog of opposite sex if possible, for long term compatibility.
Many mature dog are tolerant of the dog of the opposite sex, especially if they
are younger.
15. 7. CONSIDER YOUR CURRENT DOG LIKE'S AND
DISLIKES
If you want to get second dog, firstly give the preference to your
current dog. Ask yourself 'what kind of dogs does my dog likes'. List
out the all characteristics.
If you have senior dog who may have arthritic and other painful
issues and the second dog, a young puppy who is extremely playful
and can force the other dog in his activities may not be a good
option. It can be stressful and painful for your first dog.
