Thinking about revision…Thinking about revision…
Wider considerations…Wider considerations…
• Healthy lifestyle.
• Sufficient sleep.
• Eat well.
• Find a place where you can
work effectively.
• Get a plan – one that you
have made.
• Start early – learning should
be done by the time study
leave starts.
How to plan.How to plan.
• Spider diagram for each subject – break it down into
smaller topics so that you are aware of what you need to
cover.
• Use a diary or the year planner to see how much time
you have.
• Start assigning slots to cover specific topics from your
spider diagrams.
• Keep it varied – don’t go for too much of one subject on
one day.
• Show the breaks you intend to take and the goals you
intend to reach.
Dos and don’ts!Dos and don’ts!
• DO make sure all of the
topics are covered.
• DO start sessions with
something easy so you feel
positive.
• DO avoid distractions –
maximize the usefulness of
the time you have devoted to
revision
• DO reward yourself when
you achieve a target.
• DON’T start too late.
• DON’T panic.
• DON’T be afraid to ask for
help.
• DON’T give up.
• DON’T plan to spend too
long on a particular
technique.
• DON’T take a break until you
planned to!
Useful Methods – Revision cardsUseful Methods – Revision cards
Note taking – NOT just copying out!Note taking – NOT just copying out!
• Good clear notes are easier to learn from and you
feel more positive about it.
• Taking notes helps you learn.
• Ready made notes (like in revision guides) are
useful, but the action of taking notes,
summarising, putting into your own words, etc
means you are learning as you are writing.
• Emphasizing key works, using diagrams helps.
Teaching it!Teaching it!
• When you think you have
learnt something, try
explaining it to someone else.
• If there’s nobody willing to
listen, explain it to a pet or to
yourself.
• You will know whether you
are convincing or not.
• If you are thinking ‘well…I
understand it, I just can’t
explain it’ YOU DON’T
FULLY UNDERSTAND IT!
InternetInternet
• Educational websites are
a useful tool.
• Bytesize, s-cool, skoool
all very good.
• Use it in bursts.
• Stay off MSN!!!!
