The Student Affairs Assessment & Research office was developed to demonstrate effective Student Affairs practices and programming. It facilitates strategic planning and assessment for the Division of Student Affairs to align with university goals. The office develops assessment processes and plans, creates reporting processes for evaluations, and facilitates professional development opportunities regarding assessment best practices. It aims to share research findings on student outcomes annually. The Director, Renée Delgado-Riley, focuses on research to support student academic success and manages grant programs.

Strategic Planning
In an effort to maintain the alignment of Student Affairs with UNM 2020 and other institutional and
state-wide goals, SAAR will facilitate ongoing strategic planning for the Division of Student Affairs. Our
office is available for consultation to help your office build your strategic goals and alignment. The main
focus of SAAR will be to collaborate institutionally to ensure the Student Affairs research and
assessment strategic plan is on track.

Assessment
A commitment to demonstrating the collective impact and outlook of Student Affairs Programming,
SAAR will lead assessment and research for the Division of Student Affairs. Our office is available to help
your department develop outcome criteria, metrics and assessment plans that will guide your decision-
making and programming.
3. Develop an assessment process for Student Affairs focused on outcomes.
4. Facilitate assessment planning for the Division of Student Affairs.
5. Develop list of at least two research projects annually.
Reports
Sharing best-practices that are student and community focused are key to the success of Student Affairs.
SAAR will assist in the access, data management and reporting processes for the Division. Our office is
available to help document and demonstrate the added value of Student Affairs programming.
6. Create standardized reporting process for Student Affairs assessment and evaluations.
7. Create systematic processes for standardizing data collection.
8. Develop at least one internal and external publication annually.
Professional Development
In an effort to promote a culture of assessment, SAAR will facilitate ongoing assessment and research
for the Division of Student Affairs. Our office is available for consultation to help your office build your
assessment plan to align with the OSA Strategic Plan. The main focus of SAAR will be promote
assessment and research.
9. Facilitate educational opportunities for Student Affairs to develop best practices for
assessment and share research findings related to outcomes.

3. Renée Delgado-Riley focuses on gaining insight into how best to support the academic success of college
and K-12 students from New Mexico and underserved groups. She is particularly interested in
quantitative research investigating student motivation, persistence and academic achievement
disparities using growth trajectory models. She facilitates and manages many federal, state and private
grant student support programs along with serving on the Staff Council in leadership positions. In
addition to her professional roles, Renée received her doctorate in the Educational Psychology at the
University of New Mexico in 2014. Renée received her Bachelor’s in Psychology in 2007 and a Master’s
degree in Educational Psychology in 2009 all from UNM. As a first-generation student and scholar, she is
passionate about service and is evident through her work with community as the Vice-President of her
Church Council. She is actively involved in the University community through mentoring, advisement
and participation on various committees. The limited time she has is dedicated to raising her daughter
and two stepchildren, enjoying her family and creating a legacy future generations can be inspired from.

Level 1: Assessment in Higher Education Today
This level of Assessment & Research professional development is part of SAAR’s effort to facilitate
assessment and research planning within Student Affairs. This series of workshops will provide
individuals with a basic level of understanding on how to develop an assessment plan, outcomes and
processes that are standardized for specific programming.

network of individuals dedicated to systematic assessment processes. This series of workshops will
provide individuals will an adequate level of understanding of technical aspects of assessment within
Higher Education.

This level of Assessment & Research professional development is part of SAAR’s effort to promote a
culture of the collective impact and outlook of Student Affairs programming. This program will give
participants the opportunity and knowledge to work one-on-one with SAAR to develop, implement and
conduct a research project related to Student Affairs and Higher Education.
