How to create a Video Proposal

3. What presentation is not The objective is to create a 2-minute business card that helps Grantmakers and Impact Investors evaluate how you execute. The Video Proposal is not traditional storytelling You are not targeting the general public You are not trying to “make audience cry” or “shock them” All the questions in this document are prompt questions
4. Required Format Overview: the one-liner you give at networking events that describes what your organization does Social Problem: Where is the pain being felt? Solution: How does your program take the pain away? Team: Whose is leading this program? Measurement: Are you (will you be) self-sustaining? How do you know program is working? How Much Money & Use of Funds: So you get the money…then what?
5. Overview Describe what your organization does Short and simple Has to be easy enough for a 3rd grader to understand Analogies to things are good (things must be well known) Avoid The wordy mission statement the no one understands Being so vague that people cannot describe what you do to a buddy
6. Social Problem What is the problem? Make it obvious Video clip, pictures, graphs, tables, charts Who has this problem and how many people have it? Stats, research, quotes, examples Why does this problem matter?
7. Solution Show your Program’s solution to the problem Demonstrate the product/service with video, photo, screen shots Describe your solution How does it work from beginning to end? Saying “we work with...” explains nothing Support organization’s solution with: Video of someone using solution, data, reports, etc.
8. Team Who is running the Program? Why is your team the right people to lead the Program? Does the team have deep domain experience? Has anyone run an organization before? Any key volunteers?
9. Measurement How do you know your solution is working? What metrics do you use to determine success? What do you do if you are failing? How do you make money? Who are your paying customers? What are your source(s) of revenue? If this is an investment, what is the ROI?
10. Objectives & Use of Funds How much money do you need? Why do you need that amount? Support with data What will the money be used for? Are you looking to hire someone at an executive position? How many more people will you be able to help? Where are you expanding to?
