3. Introduction
• Connecting audiences with the
products they demand has always
been a challenge, however the
development of technology over the
past few decades has changed the
way consumers behave.
• It is important for businesses to be
one step ahead and be able to adapt
to new technology and new
consumer habits as they evolve.
• This presentation aims to explore
the changes and developments of
technology, whilst also looking at
the effect it has had on people and
the way they consume.

4. Access to the Internet
• The creation of the internet in
1983 was a major breakthrough,
now every network was
connected by a universal
language, this enabled people
from all over the world to interact
and ‘connect’ with each other.
• The 90’s was a huge development
period that included the creation
of www and by 1999 there were
over 255 million internet users.

6. Digital Devices Used by
Audiences
• The introduction of the Iphone in 2007
resulted in a huge increase in wireless
internet access for billions.
• In 2016, 75% of adults had used the
internet ‘on the go’ using a
smartphone or handeld device. (N.d.
2016)
• Globally, 47% of music consumption
happens on youtube, and more than
70% of Youtube watch time comes
from mobile devices. (Gandra, A, 2019)
• The internet has evolved from the big
PC at home to being instantly
accessible; on mobile smartphones.
• Mobile devices have more access to
social media apps and sharing
platforms.

Information
Rex Chancellor - 76989375
In January 2015, the local search association asked more
than 2,000 customers …
• Search Engines came out on top as by far the most
used tool with company websites the only other stand
out.
• Consumers often make snap decisions as a lot of what
they see is on their smartphone and there is a lot of
content to get through.
• A key factor for what keeps a visitor on a site is a
professional and visually appealing design.
• Responsive web design is important because it means
your website can respond to different screen sizes and
automatically adapt to the correct one.
• 81% of shoppers conduct online research before
buying (Admin, 2017)

• By 2022 online videos will make up more than 82% of all
consumer internet traffic – fifteen times higher than it was
in 2017. (McCue, 2020)
• 6 out of 10 people prefer online video consumption to live
TV. (Bump, 2019)
• On Mobile alone, YouTube reaches more 18-49 yr olds than
any broadcast or TV network and has launched in over 91
countries. (Bump, 2019)
• YouTube is the second most popular social media platform
with over 1.9 billion users. (Biteable, 2017)
• Strong visual content and branding is very important for a
businesses marketing because people are stimulated and
drawn to visually appealing and ‘out of the ordinary’
material. Consumers are beginning to rely on marketing
videos from brands.

10. Impact on Life
• Advances in technology have led to positive changes in life, people are more connected and have better access to a much
bigger range.
• Technologies such as social media and online purchasing platforms can have a negative effect both on our mental and
physical wellbeing.
• The overuse of technology is the main problem here and may have a more significant impact on developing children and
the young teenagers that use it.
• Impact for business, it is now easier than ever for consumers to read and write reviews on products and services.

to adapt to a completely unknown situation.
• With social restrictions now starting to ease things may get easier but there will be a lasting impact. The way people think,
feel and of course shop has been impacted and their behaviors will be notably different for many months to come.
