Mark Twain, born Samuel Langhorne Clemens, was an American author best known for his novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He was born in 1835 in Florida, Missouri and grew up in Hannibal on the Mississippi River. Some of his most famous works include Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a sequel to Tom Sawyer, about a boy and runaway slave traveling down the Mississippi. Later in life, Twain fell into debt and depression after financial losses and the deaths of his wife and daughters. He toured the world lecturing to earn money and wrote memoirs for Ulysses S. Grant before his death in 1910.

2. Early Life Samuel Langhorne Clemens Was his birth name but he used Mark Twain as his pen name. He was born in Florida Missouri. His parents are John Marshall Clemens and Jane Lampton Clemens. Twain was the sixth of seven children. Only three of his siblings survived childhood. When Twain was four, his family moved to Hannibal Missouri, a port town on the Mississippi River. This is the town where he grew up.
3. Writings He began writing about humorous verses and then evolved into murderous stories. During his mid career he wrote the book the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He also wrote in the Virginia city newspaper. He wrote about fiction, nonfiction, historical fiction, and children’s literature. He also traveled a lot and spoke to many crowds of people. Later in his life he wrote the memoirs for Ulysses S. Grant
4. Later Life Over the years Twain had invested a great deal of money in unsuccessful printing and publishing ventures, and in 1893 he found himself deeply in debt. To earn back his losses he lectured all the way around the world. After the deaths of his daughters and wife he fell into a long lasting depression.
5. The Adventures of Huck Finn The adventures of Huck Finn was designed to be a sequel for the book Tom Sawyer. The story begins in St. Petersburg, Missouri near the Mississippi River. In the beginning Huck Finn is stuck under the strict guardianship of Widow Douglas.
6. Mark Twain and Huck St. Petersburg was made after the city he grew up in Hannibal, Missouri. Mark Twain made the book because he wanted to make fun of southern people. The message in the bingeing of the story was a another instance of Mark Making fun of people.
