2. My personal development
My strength in confidence remains, I have no problem presenting my work or being in front of a
camera. But over the past few years on this course, I’d say I’ve improved in every other aspect
too. Mainly teamwork, in working with other students on the course to complete my projects
and theirs. Problem solving, from the various technical issues I’ve encountered over the past
two years, and working under pressure, after experiencing the pressure of a close deadline.
3. Working outside of class and balancing my social life
are, for me, really the same issue. I find myself very
distracted outside of a classroom environment even
now. But when push comes to shove, I know that I
can always complete my work on time. Even if it gets
a little close to the deadline for my liking sometimes.
4. Task 4 – External visits
Over my two years at York College. I’ve attended the
Aesthetica Film Festival twice. These experiences helped
me to understand the format and publication traditions
around short films. As well as helping me to solidify the
fields of film I wanted to work in – namely, story and
scriptwriting. After attending two masterclasses by Andi
Osho and Alice Lowe, I got a good idea of what working
in the industry was like for those who are just starting
out, further enforcing my decision to go into film. I didn’t
manage to book visits to any of my university choices
except MediaCity, which was my firm choice from the
beginning. After a productive three visits to the campus, I
solidified it as my top choice, the course content, tutors
and facilities were certainly fitting for what I want to do
in University.
5. My Applications
I decided to apply to Salford
and Lincoln as my firm choices
in the end. With Salford as the
main choice. Though I did also
look into Birmingham and
Leeds Beckett, I didn’t stick
with these choices for long, as I
felt only Lincoln and Salford
offered the courses I was
comfortable with. I received
offers from both universities on
the condition I received a merit
from my current course. So far,
I am on track to go to Salford,
more specifically, MediaCity. To
study film production.
