4. My Chinese dream
My name is Luo Xiao Ming; I’m twenty
years old, from Equatorial Guinea. I’ve
been in China for a decade already. I
graduated from Beijing No.55 high school,
currently an undergraduate at the
Communication University of China. I’m the
third child of six brothers and sisters. I’m
that guy whose stature is not tall, not fat
nor thin, young man with a radiant smile.
Sometimes, I like to be in a quiet world,
quietly reading a book, listening to songs;
sometimes, I like to be in a lively world,
having fun with friends, chatting together,
this is I, sometimes quiet, sometimes lively.
I love to laugh, but also like to make friends,
I would be humorously sharing my happiness
with friends, this is I, cheerful, frank,
humorous. I’m a "bookworm", I like reading
5. a books of all aspects, reading makes me
broaden my horizons and increase my
knowledge, I’ve also benefited a lot from
it, this is I, I love reading. I’m full of
hope and expectation about my future, this
is I, striving to stick.
As a child, my family and me had to leave our
motherland because of my father’s work, to
come to live in Beijing China, I was just ten
years old then. In Equatorial Guinea I only
attended up to fourth grade, then I was a very
serious student, among the best in class, I
also won the "school outstanding student
award." After I came to China, I finished
primary school at Cuban embassy’s school;
it was there where I came into contact with
Chinese language. The name Xiao Ming (which
means “little clever”) was given by my
primary school teacher, I didn’t know the
origin of the name, and others just began to
call me Xiao Ming. After I went to Beijing
no.55 high school, because of my Chinese name,
6. the students often make fun of me. Every time
I introduced myself to other schoolmates
they will ask: "Are you the Xiao Ming on our
textbook.” Later I learned that the name
“Xiao Ming” has a very long history of
connotation, it appeared in China's various
"classics", reflecting China's rich Chinese
civilization, even once the representative
of Chinese out of Asia, has become one of the
"most influential name ". Because this name
was born with the temperament of a joke, it
became the name of protagonist of a lot of
jokes, often seen in elementary school and
junior high school’s math questions,
physics questions, chemistry questions and
jokes. Unfortunately, I am not interested in
the above subjects, but very interested in
languages, my mother tongue is Spanish, when
I started in high school, I could speak
Spanish and a little Chinese, my English was
not how good enough, because my mother tongue
is Spanish, so I was at the same time learning
7. English and Chinese, otherwise I would not
be able to communicate with my classmates.
I came to the Communication University
of China after graduating from high school,
at the beginning I began to learn editing and
publishing, and later I applied to change
into Chinese language and literature, I
changed my major because I think my destiny
is linked with Chinese language, The purpose
for which I changed my major is to fulfill
my predestined fate with Chinese language.
I learn Chinese school for a decade, but I
was no satisfied of my own Chinese
proficiency, I believe I can learn better.
A decade has gone by, and I have not been back
to the country, I have been staying in
Beijing all this time, so I miss my country.
I hope one day I learn Chinese perfectly, go
back to Equatorial Guinea, and teach all the
knowledge and ability that I learned in China
to fellow country mates, that they may know
that there is more excellent way, I would
8. like to work in the government sector, so I
can make my country develop faster, but I
have to become excellent first. China has
developed rapidly in recent years; I think
our country does not need a long time to
develop. In fact, what our country needs can
be found in China, so I want to spread these
things in our country, so we can enjoy a
better life. I want to be able to influence,
my family, my country and even the whole
world, this is my Chinese dream!
