Robert Hornung of Connecticut shares a wonderful new presentation on the students of Indiana University Northwest that hosted a charity KanJam tournament to raise canned goods. Enjoy and please share!
2. • Students at Indiana University Northwest banded
together recently to participate in Philanthropy Week
• Students were challenged to come up with new and
interesting ways to give back to their community as a
whole
• The proposed and wildly successful idea was a KanJam
tournament that helped gross a food collection of over
900 items
• The food pantry is right on campus making it even
easier for the donations to be served
3. • The tournament was designed as a 40-team
double-elimination event
• Students rushed to register their teams with
just 4 cans per team as the fee
• This “fee” would be passed exponentially by
each team allowing for hundreds and hundreds
of canned items to be collected and eventually
given to more needy parties
4. • Kristofer Schnatz, the Executive Director of
Athletics was interviewed on the KanJam
tournament and Philanthropy Week and he couldn’t
have been more proud of the student body
• Schnatz said, “We had an outstanding turnout and
this event was a huge success. Our students
donated more than we expected and they had a
blast doing it.We plan to make this an annual event
on campus for our students and our campus
community.”
5. • Schnatz made special mention to Dustin
Cantrell’s sociology class that set the bar
extremely high and encouraged others to
donate anything they could
• The difference made by Mr. Cantrell will impact
c o u n t l e s s p e o p l e a n d d e s e r ve s a
commendable applause
6. • Currently the Student Government
Association is developing the on-campus food
pantry that will hopefully provide IU
Northwest students and families access to
donated items during the event
• The pantry will also continue to accept
donations for future events as well
7. • Events and strong turnouts like this are truly
inspirational and are something to aspire to for
each school, business, and professional
organization
• Thank you to Indiana University Northwest for
providing others with support through
inventive philanthropic efforts
