her debating ability, being unwilling to back down when estabilished politicians avoid her questions. It is this

WORLD MERIT
“World Merit has given me the confidence and determination to make a positive impact locally and globally.”
“World Merit is continuing to benefit me on a daily basis. It provides the freedom to connect with people
globally that are also passionate and motivated to making positive impacts within their communities. Seeing
the outcomes of their social actions was inspiring and gave me belief that I was capable of doing something
similar myself.”

Robyn’s plan is to create a day dedicated to educating young people around Politics. Throughout this event,
she will encourage the young people to discuss key issues and events and how they feel about them. Then
she wants to hold an activity that gives the young people the opportunity to have an insight to where the
governments money goes, and get them to reflect on how they would go about spending the money. During
the day she will try and incorporate activities that will help educate the young people about the basics, such
how how to vote, who to vote for, and where to vote. At the end of the day she will create a final reflection
on the event, whether that be via audio format or pen to paper, she wants to create something that will
emphasise why politics should be taught in school and why young people are wanting to be educated about
it.
Merit Next Social Action Challenge
“I think Merit Next will give me the opportunities that I thought I would never be capable of receiving. In
terms of my role in my local community, it will allow me to bring all the knowledge I have learnt throughout
the program, as well as the experience, home and hopefully inspire the young people to go on to do
something similar. It will also help me gain confidence and aspirations to continue combatting environmental
and social issues.”

WORLD MERIT
Robyn is only 17 and already extremely active socially. She is currently studying fashion and promotion in
Liverpool Community College. She has always been active within her local community and when she was
15 she developed the ‘Dare to be’ program. This was focused on how young people view their bodies in a
negative way. In August 2013, she became a Knowsley Young Advisor employee; a role that allows her to
engage and interact, listen and communicate, with young people across her borough. It’s allowed her to
gain a greater understanding and knowledge on what the youth think need to be prioritised within the com-
munity and what their biggest concerns are. Alongside this, she is also a Member of Youth Parliament and
act as a representative for Knowsley, a role that allows her to be a voice for young people and to gather their
concerns and comments and pass them on to key decision makers, for example, Knowsley council. She
now wishes to support her community on a larger scale and World Merit is helping her to do this.

“anyone is capable as long as they stay committed to what they set out to achieve.”
Dare To Be Me is a program she developed aimed at secondary school age pupils (11-16). She brought this
idea forward during her time at school, it was to ensure the pupils appreciated their body, to stop focusing
on how they look and use that attention to focus on how their body works. She wanted them to step out of
their comfort zones, to push their boundaries, to believe that their body is capable of many different things
whether that is creating fine art, competing in the Olympics or even creating a family. Robyn feels like we

ensure that one way or another we are reminded of that rather than being
reminded of the best new celebrity diets. The program was a success, and it
was introduced within the schools’ curriculum.
