4. Aerospace & Defence
Aerospace & Defence industry, post its subdued growth
in 2015-16, is expected to grow at over 2.3% during
2017. Commercial aerospace will maintain its current
0.5% growth, in the light of constantly growing air-
traffic and encouragement from the governments to
expand air coverage across the globe. In light of national
security threats, defence budgets in the West and GCC
countries are expected to increase significantly. Market
for modern defence weapons and new technologies is on
the rise with an expected growth of 3%. Mordor
Intelligence offers studies in the following sub-sectors
within the A&D industry.

5. Case : An emerging in-flight catering service provider was
looking to expand into the developed markets.
Solution: In-Flight catering is one of those sectors in the
aviation industry, which purely depends upon demand-side
dynamics. For providing a tentative action plan to the client,
understanding the ‘Voice of the Customer’ was of utmost
importance. To cater to this requirement, Team Mordor
conducted polls and surveys with a sample size of 600, which
included inputs from frequent flyers, flight attendants and
local catering providers. The gathered information covered –
regional cuisine preferences, choice of meal types, speciality
meals requirements and choice of catering in a long flight vs.
short flight. Finally, in order to provide a head start to the
client, our team also provided a tentative ‘Plan of Action’
which included strategies like pre-booking meals and a
dedicated mobile application.
Voice of the Customer
Result: The provided data was used in the client’s think tank
presentation. The statistical forecasts, survey analytics and
preference analysis were used to support in planning
operations.

6. Case: Japan-based investor/charter operator wanted to understand the feasibility
of entering the APAC Business Jet Market.
Solution: Upon multiple discussions with the client, the team devised a plan to
help capture the financial implications of the project. Towards this, we employed
a dynamic financial modelling approach to evaluate financial parameters
including internal rate of return, net present value and break even point as
measures of ROI. Furthermore, the A&D team was successful in answering the
following questions:
1. Who are the major charter operators in the region?
2. What is the charter frequency and pricing?
3. What are the major routes of operation?
4. What is the business jet sales forecast for the next five years?
5. How is the demand for charters at country level?
6. What are the frequently deployed strategies & developments in the sector.
Sensitivity Analysis was carried out to calibrate risk more effectively; changes at
a macro-level were modelled by considering multiple scenarios, which helped to
optimise the overall profitability.
Result: Having understood the existing competition in the market, routes in
operation and the anticipated demand, our client was able to execute market
entry strategies with strong supportive metrics.

7. Case: A major Airport BMS & operations systems provider
wanted to know the performance of it’s sub-divisions, to decide
whether to sell or invest more in the firm.
Solution: The first challenge for our analyst team was to
determine the Optimal Capital Structure for the company.
Apportioning costs between various SBUs of the company was
a major challenge with the market being highly competitive for
each service line of the company. Further, an understanding of
which divisions were driving the company’s growth trajectory
and which should be divested in a 3-5 year timeline was
inevitable. Our Team, supported a detailed financial analysis
and developed innovative business metrics for competitive
benchmarking. Baggage claim failure rate, passenger waiting
time and security breach rate were few of the benchmark
metrics employed in the study to analyse the current state of
the company and devise a corresponding plan-of-action.

understand the current market scenario and the anticipated growth.
Solution: The ‘Plan of Action’ for this case was to identify all dependent
variables influencing the market. These factors include technological
advancements, market drivers, constraints, opportunities, potential challenges,
value & supply chain analysis. An ‘Impact Analysis’ for each individual variable
was conducted and a subsequent plan was proposed to modulate the dependence
of these factors. We also provided the client with a list of Ongoing and
Upcoming Airport Projects in the global aviation industry. Further, country level
understanding of the system requirements, industry competitiveness, ability to
integrate with existing systems and comprehensive profiling of key vendors was
provided to keep the client up to date with the Industry.
