2. Sheffield Steel
Steel, what is steel?
Sheffield has a strong history connected to its steel industry; being
renowned for its contributions to this field.
Steelworks have been taking place in Sheffield from as early as the
Thirteenth Century, where they have been making cutlery, weaponry,
machinery and all things in between.

3. The Filmmaking Process
We want to display the significance of the steel industry, historically
compared to current. To illustrate this, we want to speak to the
Millennium Gallery about their historical knowledge on the topic, and
for a current perspective we have a contact who currently works in the
industry.
There are also many steelworks factories still operating in Sheffield
and we will seek permission from them to film on location and
perhaps speak to a factory owner of what it’s like to run one in the
Twenty First Century.
4. If along the process we discover other areas of Sheffield that have a
unique and significant history related to steel, we will also try and
feature them as part of it.
The overall style of this documentary would be an interview over
visuals, images relating to the subject of discussion, as well as
shifting to and from the interview subject.
There are also many abandoned, condemned and converted sites in
Sheffield as a result of the post-industrial era, marking the change
from secondary industry to primary.
5. Seshfield: The Harsh Reality
We would like to explore the realities that face many people yet are
hidden behind the façade of a ‘night out’. These can include all sorts
such as spiked drinks, sexual & physical assault, etc.
We have found articles talking about the unfortunate existence of
sexual assault in Sheffield, and how it is seen as a near insignificant
issue to authorities. “The police are rarely interested and few clubs
are”. The article can be found here.
And it’s not just Sheffield.
6. We have a contact that works in a local Sheffield pub who, in his short
tenure, has witnessed several instances of questionable activity.
We are also planning on asking around people we know (mostly
students) for their personal anecdotes of their experiences.
We will be seeking permission from local clubs and bar premises to
film, most likely in the early hours of their opening for a night.
