This document provides information about best practices for e-clubs. It discusses starting an e-club including visioneering, getting organized, chartering, and induction. It also discusses ways to keep an e-club going such as having a healthy and diverse membership, hybrid online and in-person meetings, identifying grant shepherds, creating pre-approved project menus, being proactive in creating visions and showing the club off to others. Tips for successful online meetings and putting the international aspect of Rotary first are also presented.

Challenges/Advantages of E-Clubs
65. CHALLENGES OF E-CLUBS
Perceptions:
Some are threatened by E-Clubs and do
not understand their structure.
Some do not see e-Club Rotarians as
“real” Rotarians.
Physical attendance:
Required District Gatherings, Inter Club
Meetings, Assemblies, fundraisers, etc. can
be hard to get members to attend when
they’re not available or simply can’t meet in
person due to geographical constraints.
66. CHALLENGES OF E-CLUBS
Financial Management can be a balancing
act:
Local banks, deposits, changing signatures,
online payment systems, etc., can be tricky.
Banks often require personal appearance to
change signing officials.
Dealing with tax laws from region to region
and country to country can be complicated.
In America, establishing “501c3 not for profit
status” is hard for small clubs and can impact
fundraising initiatives.
67. CHALLENGES OF E-CLUBS
Such a wide variety of participation
and attendance options can be
overwhelming to members.
Online chats, emails, Facebook groups,
Zoom, Skype, Blogs, in-person meetings,
District Meetings, fundraisers, etc.
Discovering and nurturing member
strengths and interests can take a bit
more time but it’s worth it!
68. ADVANTAGES OF E-CLUBS
Be anywhere – there are no
geographical constraints.
Less expensive – no meals!
Global Programs - invite
speakers to present from
anywhere in the world.
Leverages technology to
bring Rotarians together,
69. ADVANTAGES OF E-CLUBS
No dress code - Attend
meetings in your PJ’s & drink a
glass of wine.
Easy Makeups - Members
from other clubs can makeup
meetings by watching your
videos or attending your
meetings.
Flexible model is great for
teachers, retirees, and young
professionals and fosters more
diversity.
Request a
Makeup!
70. ADVANTAGES OF E-CLUBS
Access the meeting from your
mobile device – laptop, phone, ipad,
etc.
On Demand - Never miss a
meeting!
Collaborating with other clubs and
groups in other areas is easy.
Camera shy? Listen and watch the
program & turn off your video
camera.

Notes;
Howdy, I am John Clements, currently President of the Rotary E-Club of Australia Nomads or as we are better known Downunder, the Rotary Nomads.
Our Membership base consists of;
People very new to Rotary at one end of the spectrum to very Experienced Rotarians at the other end
Partners of people who are members of other Rotary Clubs. These people get the Face to Face Rotary experience at home and can maintain their Rotary interest while they are travelling
Notes;
Notes;
The best part about our Zoom Meetings is that you can have a wine whilst sitting in bed with your computer on your lap. The biggest inhibitor for us is when people are travelling and they are in a place where there is little or no Internet service as we rely on the internet to have our Zoom meetings. A large proportion of Australia is not served by the Internet as it is a sparsely populated country.
Our Meetings are recorded so that people who cannot get online at the time of the meeting can find out what happened at a later time.
Notes;
We are really no different to other Rotary Clubs in respect to the Service work that we do.
Notes;
We began as a satellite club of the Rotary Club of Jindalee (a suburb of Brisbane) in June 2014 when 3 Rotarians were going away for an extended RV holiday and wondered how they would cope without Rotary Involvement.
The slide shows the Nomads in March 2015 where we celebrated our charter at the central location of Broken Hill, New South Wales with our President of the time in the light blue shirt.
Notes;
We currently have 40 members. The map shows where our members live in Australia. We are not on the road all the time – most of us have homes while a few are much more mobile in our vans or motorhomes.
Over 90% of members own an RV, even though this is not a pre-requisite for joining.
We also have 1 member currently living in Helsinki. He is from Western Australia but
works alternately in Helsinki and Chicago.
Don’t forget that it is 4000km from the north to the south of Australia and 5000km from the east to the west of Australia which is very similar to Canada and the USA.
Notes;
This map shows where we have done Service Work or held Musters over the past couple of years.
Notes;
We all know communication is vital in Rotary and even more so when our members are scattered.
We have an online Travel Calendar to keep track of where members are and our weekly club meetings are always preceded by a detailed agenda and followed by our weekly newsletter, the Bull Tin. We have some terrific Guest Speakers on both Rotary Programs and Non Rotary Programs.
We also use Facebook extensively for member chat and public relations.
Notes;
Check out our website for future reference
Notes;
Examples of small groups of members helping at Local Working Bees.
Rotary Club of Townsville Sunrise, Far North Queensland is a Red Socks Project for Prostate Cancer
Rotary Club of Chinchilla, Queensland was local a Festival
Rotary Club of Emerald, Victoria is a Fun Run to have some fun and fundraise for Autism
Notes;
In 2016-17 we were able to donate over $20,000 to our various charities.
As our club has evolved, we have not only supported other Rotary Clubs raise money for their charities, but we have managed to raise funds for own charities.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a National Air Ambulance Service that provides emergency First Aid assistance anywhere in Australia by Air Transport. We have supported them financially since our inception.
This epitomises our club motto, HELPING HANDS ACROSS THE LAND.
Notes;
One of the most enjoyable features of our club are our musters. Musters are when a group of members get together in their RVs, motels or cabins and enjoy a mixture of fellowship, fund-raising and service. 2 examples of our musters in the last 12 month period include:
# May 2017; Changeover Muster in Berri, South Australia
# August 2017; Henley-on-Todd Dry River Bed Races in Alice Springs. The bottom slide shows members and friends with their boat at the boat races. We did not win! One year these races were cancelled because the river was flowing
Notes;
Notes;
We have nice friendly competition between the Southerners and Northerners and there is quite a deal of Interstate rivalry just as there is between countries and within other countries around the world.
Notes;
We hope that you have enjoyed our presentation, if you want to know anything else about how we operate Allison Hodges from our Club is hopefully in the audience as is a prospective member in Paul McNeill. Speak with one of them, contact us or attend one of our Zoom Meetings.
Thank you.
