3. Work Experience / Skills
During my career, I have had extensive experience in design, documentation, administration, supervision and all
aspects of the profession on projects up to R25 million (S.A. currency) and $75 million (NZ currency). These
include factories (approx. 30 factories completed in South Africa) shopping centres, schools, housing, public and
commercial buildings.
The experience gained in the USA includes the design and project management of the two Readiness centers for
the West Virginia National Guard.
I have an interest in agricultural architecture, and I gained experience in the design of the Döhne Agricultural
Research Station and the Fort Cox College of Agriculture in South Africa.
The experience gained on the 'Sky City" casino project gave me experience on hotels, car parks and commercial
facilities. This project was one of the largest built in New Zealand and the time constraints were such that it also
had the record for the fastest execution.
In all the projects I have worked on, I have experience in managing teams of professionals, technicians and
contractors and it has been a specific interest of mine to develop and apply effective management,
documentation and resource systems.
5. Page 5 of 18
The responsibilities given to me as computer manager for the schools of Architecture and Construction at UNITEC
developed my knowledge of the management of information technology and computing/CAD resources in a large
establishment. I have also been involved in the development of online computer training resources and
coursework design.
The subject of my Master of Design Management dissertation deals with ‘Knowledge Management in the
Architectural Profession’ and I have researched the processes involved intensively. I believe that the experience
gained has made me more proficient in communication, project and data management for architectural projects.
A direct result of this has been the development of a ‘Procedural manual’ which has become an essential tool at
ETB Architects – including project templates, CAD details etc.
My computing skills include the use of the full range of Microsoft Office programs, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD
release 2017 Architecture, SketchUp, PhotoShop, Adobe Acrobat editor, Adobe InDesign, and Web Page editors,
amongst others.
I have not yet worked in REVIT, but I am currently busy with some training courses to use this.
I have gained some experience in web page design and promotional graphics and I use a Project Website as an
information and project management tool for all the projects I work on. A link to one of the project pages I
personally developed is as follows: http://etbarchitects.com/projects01/0820-GBS-web/ - other examples can be
provided.
I have experience in 3D modelling/rendering, Interior design and Color Scheming, hand sketching and have
graphic design skills. My personal skills include cartooning, painting and drawing in water colors, graphics and
acrylics. My works have won a number of awards and first places in various art exhibitions in WV.
