Last week the installation ceremony was held and it is a matter of pride for
our club that a large number of distinguished Rotarians from all parts of
the globe, participated in our ceremony. The differences in time zones did
not deter their enthusiasm and their participation was splendid! I do not
want to take names, but all our invitees and other Rotarians who joined in,
had nothing but words of encouragement and appreciation, offered in the
most sublime Rotarian spirit. We are indeed touched and honored by their
sincerity and hope to live upto the high expectations cast upon us.
May you all continue to enthusiastically support us and we welcome your
guidance. It may not be out of place to point out that in fellowship hour, we
were able to interact and make new friends. The journey in Rotary has
become more exciting. Our gratitude to all internet friends who assembled

We are happy to present before you President Luca Della Volta of Rotary Satellite E-Club 2042 Italia.
Our Guest Speaker on 12 July 2014
President Sudarsh Menon and Fellow Rotarians across the globe,
Rotary in Italy was born November 20, 1923 with the founding of the RC Milan and was forced to disband in
1938 by the fascist dictatorship. Then Rotary came to life in 1944 almost at the end of the second World War with
the reconstitution of the Club of Messina in Sicily. Today in Italy there are 13 districts, 768 clubs and 43,000
members.
Considering that in Italy there are 60.8 million people means that only 0.07 of the population is affiliated with a
local Rotary Club and that every club should ideally serve about 80,000 people.
Rotary clubs are almost all traditional and club meetings are almost all for lunch or dinner so the meal occupies a
large part of the meeting. And also the cost of the clubs are very much influenced by the cost of the meals. It
happens often that the absence of some members in the meetings with meal saves to allocate money to programs
of service. This is not a good thing! We must not go to the club to eat but to work!
Members of the club are in many cases too old; there are few women; the club will make a few fundraisers.
The members of the clubs find it easier to look for sponsors to fund service programs, but the Italian current
economic situation is not good. In many club members use their money for service programs but this is not
Rotary. For these reasons, unfortunately, Rotary has always been seen in Italy as an organization of excellence
and elite consists of people who are rich. People who do charity, people who organize meals for charity.
Fortunately, in most recent years, with the advent of new clubs this concept is changing. It is not easy to make
people understand that we are not rich in money. We are rich in heart. We are rich in our professionalism. We
serve our community with professionalism, but not with our money! But I think this is a common problem in
many clubs all over the world This happens because in our clubs all segments of the population and all
professions are not present and represented.
It is easy to find among the members of the club lawyers, doctors, engineers, notaries, businessmen, professors,
high-level banking and instead it is very difficult if not impossible to find carpenters, grocers, butchers and in
general all those professions that have not gone to college! It is equally easy to find groups of friends who have
known each other for many years. Friends who for so many years do the exact same things! It is more difficult to
find members who are united in friendship that comes from service. We should not necessarily be friends in life
but we have to be friends to serve. We should serve in friendship. Service for others must be our friendship. If
we are also friends in life so much better.
I turn to the subject of Rotary in Italy. Our district number 2042 was born July 1, 2013 and it has 43 clubs and
about 2,200 members. It is a district that has no big cities and seven provinces. My club is in the province of
Bergamo, near Milan in the north of Italy. Rotary Club Dalmine Centenario (Centennial in English) is 10 years
old and 40 members. It serves as a very dense population of 34 municipalities, 250,000 residents and 15% of
residents are of foreign nationality.
Our club supports the Rotary Foundation and in the coming days we will reach the important figure of U.S. $
100,000 in donations during last 10 years. We are a 100% Paul Harris Club and we are engaged in many projects
to help the community like: Road Safety program that provides first quality road safety information to youth to
help ensure when they commence driving motorcycles they have the best road safety education possible. We
have a program to help people who have a lot of debt with a free debt management plan. We try to help with our
professional people in need who are not able to pay for their needs whatever they may be.

We are very close to the younger generations. We have two clubs for children between 5 and 12 years who are
called EarlyAct and we go into elementary schools to explain the sense of service and the ideals of Rotary. We
have an Interact club and a Rotaract Club.
We try to raise funds for the sick and the poor. And always we work together for End Polio Now. In this regard
we joined The World’s Greatest Meal To End Polio (WGM) and I am the Italian coordinator for this program.
The idea is so simple. Your Club can arrange an event any time. By joining together in a world-wide event many
have greatly enjoyed international fellowship via Facebook….all monies collected go straight to The Rotary
Foundation/End Polio Now account with full credit going to your Club.
‘Greatest Meal’ events have ranged from: small (two people having lunch) to large lavish dinners; a street BBQ
to a romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day; special collections at frugal meals in place of a Rotary Club’s regular
meals; meal time raffles and auctions. Events have brought in small amounts of $10 up to $10,000.
Finally we talk about E-Club. On June 25th 2014 I founded E-Club in District 2042 as Satellite of Rotary Club
Dalmine Centenario. It is the first and only European Satellite E-Club. We chose to form an E-Club in the
Italian language to try to affiliate to the Rotary all the people who speak Italian or Italian in the world that are a
lot, it seems even more than 5,000,000 and we have a goal to reach 100 within 3 years members. We hope to
work with E-Clubs in the whole world because our association is an international association of clubs and we
must be open to the whole world.
As said by our founder Paul Harris: “This is a changing world and we must be prepared to change with it”.
I close my speech with a citation: Herbert J Taylor, President of Rotary Club of Chicago, 1939-40 and Rotary
International 1954-55 said:
“I believe that the great opportunity and the great responsibility of Rotary rests in the field of building
character, in the building of men. In fact, I think this is the great task of all Rotary Clubs, building men who
will be available for service in the various walks of life; in politics, in business, in community affairs, and in
their homes as fathers and husbands. There is such a great need for good citizenship and leadership. There
are many fields in which the real leader is welcome -and needed. There is the problem of corruption and waste
in local government. There is the problem of strife between employer and employee. There is the problem of
crime in the streets. There is the problem of international peace and understanding.
But I think the greatest opportunity for Rotary is in developing leaders who will take their religious faith, and
the ideals that come from it, and put them into practice in everyday life, in the home, in business, and in the
community activities. If we take the ideals of truth, justice and love of our fellow men, and put them into
constant practice, Rotarians can work wonders. And this means that Rotary can work wonders because the
measure of Rotary lies in the life of the average Rotarian. It is the way of life he leads and the way he treats
his fellow men.”
Thank you for your attention and for your comments.
Thank you brothers and sisters in Rotary.
Thank you President for inviting me and for honoring me with being the first speaker of your Presidentship.

Pat Moore forwards this illuminating story:
POLICE REPORT
A husband went to the police station to file a "missing person" report for his
missing wife.
Husband - I've lost my wife. she went shopping and hasn't come back yet.
Inspector - What is her height?
Husband - I never checked.
Inspector - Slim and healthy?
Husband - Not slim; can be healthy.
Inspector - Colour of eyes?
Husband - Never noticed.
Inspector - Colour of hair?
Husband - Changes according to season.
Inspector - What was she wearing?
Husband - Not sure whether it was a dress or a suit.
Inspector - Was she driving?
Husband - Yes.
Inspector - Colour of the car?
Husband - Black Audi A8 with supercharged 3.0 litre V6 engine, generating 333
horse power, teamed with an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission with
manual mode. And it has full LED headlights, which use light-emitting diodes for all
light functions, and it has a very thin scratch on the front left door....
And then the husband started crying.
Inspector - Don't worry, sir. We will find your car.

Bruce Galway sends these ideas, which he says he did not know and does not know if they
really work as stated - so there are no guarantees:
WHO KNEW?
Did you know that drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately,
without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional pain relievers?
Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns?
Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try
chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.
Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 tablespoon horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the
mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil for instant relief for aching muscles.
Sore throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a
day The vinegar kills the bacteria.
Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer. Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink
it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost
instantly, even though the product was never advertised for this use.
Honey remedy for skin blemishes: Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a Band-Aid
over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight.
Listerine therapy for toenail fungus: Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in
Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.
Easy eyeglass protection: To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop
of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.
Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer: If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets get
into your home and you can't find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409. Insects drop to the
ground instantly.
Smart splinter remover: Just pour a drop of Elmer's glue all over the splinter, let dry, and peel the
dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.
Hunt's Tomato Paste boil cure: Cover the boil with Hunt's Tomato Paste as a compress. The acids
from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.
Balm for broken blisters: To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine, a powerful
antiseptic.
Vinegar to heal bruises: Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The
vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process.
Quaker Oats for fast pain relief ... it's not just for breakfast anymore! Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and
1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the
mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.
For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action.
It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do
1. IS IT THE TRUTH?
2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?
3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. WILL IT BE BENEFICIAL TO ALL CONCERNED?
The Rotarian E-Club Fellowship (REF) was approved by the Board of

Last week the installation ceremony was held and it is a matter of pride for our club that a large number of distinguished Rotarians from all parts of the globe, participated in our ceremony. The differences in time zones did not deter their enthusiasm and their participation was splendid! I do not want to take names, but all our invitees and other Rotarians who joined in, had nothing but words of encouragement and appreciation, offered in the most sublime Rotarian spirit. We are indeed touched and honored by their sincerity and hope to live upto the high expectations cast upon us. May you all continue to enthusiastically support us and we welcome your guidance. It may not be out of place to point out that in fellowship hour, we were able to interact and make new friends. The journey in Rotary has become more exciting. • 4. President Sudarsh Menon and Fellow Rotarians across the globe, Rotary in Italy was born November 20, 1923 with the founding of the RC Milan and was forced to disband in 1938 by the fascist dictatorship. Then Rotary came to life in 1944 almost at the end of the second World War with the reconstitution of the Club of Messina in Sicily. Today in Italy there are 13 districts, 768 clubs and 43,000 members. Considering that in Italy there are 60.8 million people means that only 0.07 of the population is affiliated with a local Rotary Club and that every club should ideally serve about 80,000 people. Rotary clubs are almost all traditional and club meetings are almost all for lunch or dinner so the meal occupies a large part of the meeting. And also the cost of the clubs are very much influenced by the cost of the meals. It happens often that the absence of some members in the meetings with meal saves to allocate money to programs of service. This is not a good thing! We must not go to the club to eat but to work! Members of the club are in many cases too old; there are few women; the club will make a few fundraisers. The members of the clubs find it easier to look for sponsors to fund service programs, but the Italian current economic situation is not good. In many club members use their money for service programs but this is not Rotary. For these reasons, unfortunately, Rotary has always been seen in Italy as an organization of excellence and elite consists of people who are rich. People who do charity, people who organize meals for charity. Fortunately, in most recent years, with the advent of new clubs this concept is changing. It is not easy to make people understand that we are not rich in money. We are rich in heart. We are rich in our professionalism. We serve our community with professionalism, but not with our money! But I think this is a common problem in many clubs all over the world This happens because in our clubs all segments of the population and all professions are not present and represented. It is easy to find among the members of the club lawyers, doctors, engineers, notaries, businessmen, professors, high-level banking and instead it is very difficult if not impossible to find carpenters, grocers, butchers and in general all those professions that have not gone to college! It is equally easy to find groups of friends who have known each other for many years. Friends who for so many years do the exact same things! It is more difficult to find members who are united in friendship that comes from service. We should not necessarily be friends in life but we have to be friends to serve. We should serve in friendship. Service for others must be our friendship. If we are also friends in life so much better. I turn to the subject of Rotary in Italy. Our district number 2042 was born July 1, 2013 and it has 43 clubs and about 2,200 members. It is a district that has no big cities and seven provinces. My club is in the province of Bergamo, near Milan in the north of Italy. Rotary Club Dalmine Centenario (Centennial in English) is 10 years old and 40 members. It serves as a very dense population of 34 municipalities, 250,000 residents and 15% of residents are of foreign nationality. Our club supports the Rotary Foundation and in the coming days we will reach the important figure of U.S. $ 100,000 in donations during last 10 years. We are a 100% Paul Harris Club and we are engaged in many projects to help the community like: Road Safety program that provides first quality road safety information to youth to help ensure when they commence driving motorcycles they have the best road safety education possible. We have a program to help people who have a lot of debt with a free debt management plan. We try to help with our professional people in need who are not able to pay for their needs whatever they may be. 1 Luca Della Volta President SATELLITE DEL R.C. DALMINE CENTENARIO
  • 5. We are very close to the younger generations. We have two clubs for children between 5 and 12 years who are called EarlyAct and we go into elementary schools to explain the sense of service and the ideals of Rotary. We have an Interact club and a Rotaract Club. We try to raise funds for the sick and the poor. And always we work together for End Polio Now. In this regard we joined The World’s Greatest Meal To End Polio (WGM) and I am the Italian coordinator for this program. The idea is so simple. Your Club can arrange an event any time. By joining together in a world-wide event many have greatly enjoyed international fellowship via Facebook….all monies collected go straight to The Rotary Foundation/End Polio Now account with full credit going to your Club. ‘Greatest Meal’ events have ranged from: small (two people having lunch) to large lavish dinners; a street BBQ to a romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day; special collections at frugal meals in place of a Rotary Club’s regular meals; meal time raffles and auctions. Events have brought in small amounts of $10 up to $10,000. Finally we talk about E-Club. On June 25th 2014 I founded E-Club in District 2042 as Satellite of Rotary Club Dalmine Centenario. It is the first and only European Satellite E-Club. We chose to form an E-Club in the Italian language to try to affiliate to the Rotary all the people who speak Italian or Italian in the world that are a lot, it seems even more than 5,000,000 and we have a goal to reach 100 within 3 years members. We hope to work with E-Clubs in the whole world because our association is an international association of clubs and we must be open to the whole world. As said by our founder Paul Harris: “This is a changing world and we must be prepared to change with it”. I close my speech with a citation: Herbert J Taylor, President of Rotary Club of Chicago, 1939-40 and Rotary International 1954-55 said: “I believe that the great opportunity and the great responsibility of Rotary rests in the field of building character, in the building of men. In fact, I think this is the great task of all Rotary Clubs, building men who will be available for service in the various walks of life; in politics, in business, in community affairs, and in their homes as fathers and husbands. There is such a great need for good citizenship and leadership. There are many fields in which the real leader is welcome -and needed. There is the problem of corruption and waste in local government. There is the problem of strife between employer and employee. There is the problem of crime in the streets. There is the problem of international peace and understanding. But I think the greatest opportunity for Rotary is in developing leaders who will take their religious faith, and the ideals that come from it, and put them into practice in everyday life, in the home, in business, and in the community activities. If we take the ideals of truth, justice and love of our fellow men, and put them into constant practice, Rotarians can work wonders. And this means that Rotary can work wonders because the measure of Rotary lies in the life of the average Rotarian. It is the way of life he leads and the way he treats his fellow men.” Thank you for your attention and for your comments. Thank you brothers and sisters in Rotary. Thank you President for inviting me and for honoring me with being the first speaker of your Presidentship. 2 Luca Della Volta President SATELLITE DEL R.C. DALMINE CENTENARIO

  • 7. Courtesy: Jocoe's Journal - Rtn Tom Telfer Pat Moore forwards this illuminating story: POLICE REPORT A husband went to the police station to file a "missing person" report for his missing wife. Husband - Black Audi A8 with supercharged 3.0 litre V6 engine, generating 333 horse power, teamed with an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission with manual mode. And it has full LED headlights, which use light-emitting diodes for all light functions, and it has a very thin scratch on the front left door.... And then the husband started crying. Inspector - Don't worry, sir. We will find your car.

  • 10. Courtesy: Jocoe's Journal - Rtn Tom Telfer Bruce Galway sends these ideas, which he says he did not know and does not know if they really work as stated - so there are no guarantees: WHO KNEW? Did you know that drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately, without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional pain relievers? Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns? Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose. Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 tablespoon horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil for instant relief for aching muscles. Sore throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day The vinegar kills the bacteria. Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer. Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly, even though the product was never advertised for this use. Honey remedy for skin blemishes: Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a Band-Aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight. Listerine therapy for toenail fungus: Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again. Easy eyeglass protection: To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them. Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer: If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets get into your home and you can't find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409. Insects drop to the ground instantly. Smart splinter remover: Just pour a drop of Elmer's glue all over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue. Hunt's Tomato Paste boil cure: Cover the boil with Hunt's Tomato Paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head. Balm for broken blisters: To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine, a powerful antiseptic. Vinegar to heal bruises: Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process. Quaker Oats for fast pain relief ... it's not just for breakfast anymore! Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.

  • 14. For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do 1. IS IT THE TRUTH? 2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED? 3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. WILL IT BE BENEFICIAL TO ALL CONCERNED?
