get easy to understand information
on Retinopathy of Prematurity –
an eye disorder affecting
premature babies between the ages
of 21 – 30 weeks of gestation
3. Solution/Target Market
S To combat the rising need for simplified information
on Retinopathy of Prematurity, an application –
entitled Helix – was created to host current research
conducted by CEO Ryan Sahadeo and his team of
ophthalmologists at the SUNY College of Optometry
and the John Hopkins Institute.
S Young parents who know nothing about the disorder
and teenagers who have the disorder are the main users
of the application.
4. Mission & Needs
We hope to accomplish the following:
S Provide a communication array between doctors and
parents of premature babies
S Provide parents with peace of mind when finding out
more about their child’s disorder
S Ensure better prenatal care and post-hospital transition
5. Value Proposition
S A 200 Page Google search will not reveal how to take care of
different symptoms
S WebMD has no medical information of this disorder
S The National Institute of Health (NIH) has non recent
information on the disorder (2008 and earlier)
S The Center for Disease Control is up to date with highly
complicated medical research data
6. Incidence Rates
According to the CDC - as of 2013:
S 4 million babies are born a year
S 1 in every 8 (500,000) babies are born
prematurely
S 1 in every 16 (approximately 250,000 preemies)
are both with Retinopathy of Prematurity
S 1 in every 128 (52,000) births are Stages 3 - 5
