What is COMMUNITY?
- a social group of people living together in a specific
locality linked together by common values, beliefs,
behaviors, sexual orientation, government,
occupation and a shared sense of identity and
belonging.
-composed of social networks, which every member
performs significant roles for the common good of the

PERMANENCE
-Permanence one of the basic element of
community , the membership of the community
is permanent. An individual is always identified
through his community. Thus It is permanent in
its nature.
IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING YOUR
COMMUNITY
-Being in a community awakens you to your own sense of
humanity and creates a deeper understanding of what it
means to be a person. Life is others. We need others to
better understand ourselves. Understanding our obligations
to that larger community, to the human race, is part
of our development as an individual.
-in NSTP framework, community immersion can be defined
as an approach to students empowerment aiming to
strengthen social awareness and responsibility to their
communities.
-NSTP students should be exposed and immersed in actual
community life to fully understand and determine the
social, economic and political situation of the people within
a particular community.
National Service Training Program (NSTP)
-is a program aimed at enhancing civic consciousness
and defense preparedness in the youth by developing
the ethics of services and patriotism while
undergoing training in any of its three program
components. Its various components are especially
designed to enhance the youth’s active contribution
to the general welfare.
3 various components of NSTP
1. Reserve Officers, Training Corps (ROTC) - ROTC aims to provide military education and
training for students to mobilize them for national defense preparedness. Its specific
objectives include preparation of college students for service in the Armed Forces of the
Philippines in the event of an emergency and their training to become reservists and
potential commissioned officers of the AFP.
2. Literacy Training Service (LTS) - The LTS is "a program designed to train students to become
teachers of literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out of school youth, and other
segments of society“.
3. Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) - CWTS activities "are contributory to the general
welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement
of its facilities, especially those devoted to
improving health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and morals o
f the citizenry".
Activity No. 1
1. Describe and give examples how the elements of community exist
in your barangay.
2. Draw the geographical area of your barangay and show location of
the social services provided by the local government, private and
non-government sectors.
3. In your barangay, what are the common problems you have
observed that need to address and should be given by the
community people like you?
What is COMMUNITY IMMSERSION?
-is an intensive study in campus and field experience
on becoming a future leader, community organizer or
even a future educator. It would help individuals learn
some life “skills” helps them meet others, helps them
socially and most importantly to help other
community members see them a people with
“worth”.
What is Community Immersion in NSTP?
-Community immersion is a strategy
in community organizing that is sought to. imbibe
among the NSTP trainees a better understanding and
realization of the. different community concerns
through the exposure on actual life situations.
specifically in the deprived, depressed and the
underprivileged (DDU) communities.
-it is a version of service learning that is more integrated
with student’s passions and interests, is longer-term and is
related to the on-going development of community and
social justice issue.
-Community Immersion learning fulfills many of the school’s
goals for students – becoming involved citizens, learning
through worthwhile tasks, and developing leadership,
advocacy and problem-solving skills.
Importance of Community Immersion
Community Immersion Program- a social strategy in
education and training designed to bridge the gap
between theoretical instruction and the realities of
community work through experiential learning.
Benefits of a Community Immersion to
the Studens
1. Community service develops an increased sense of social responsibility – a
global view of society and a heart for ‘giving back’ and helping others.
2. Provides an opportunity to apply academic learning to real life events.
3. Builds relationships and ‘social connectedness’ with peers and adults, and
exposes students to diversity and multiculturalism.
4. Improves lifelong communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
5. Helps students find their passions and interests that may lead to a career
choice they may have not considered.

What is COMMUNITY? - a social group of people living together in a specific locality linked together by common values, beliefs, behaviors, sexual orientation, government, occupation and a shared sense of identity and belonging. -composed of social networks, which every member performs significant roles for the common good of the group.

  • 19. PERMANENCE -Permanence one of the basic element of community , the membership of the community is permanent. An individual is always identified through his community. Thus It is permanent in its nature.
  • 20. IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING YOUR COMMUNITY -Being in a community awakens you to your own sense of humanity and creates a deeper understanding of what it means to be a person. Life is others. We need others to better understand ourselves. Understanding our obligations to that larger community, to the human race, is part of our development as an individual.
  • 21. -in NSTP framework, community immersion can be defined as an approach to students empowerment aiming to strengthen social awareness and responsibility to their communities. -NSTP students should be exposed and immersed in actual community life to fully understand and determine the social, economic and political situation of the people within a particular community.
  • 22. National Service Training Program (NSTP) -is a program aimed at enhancing civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of services and patriotism while undergoing training in any of its three program components. Its various components are especially designed to enhance the youth’s active contribution to the general welfare.
  • 23. 3 various components of NSTP 1. Reserve Officers, Training Corps (ROTC) - ROTC aims to provide military education and training for students to mobilize them for national defense preparedness. Its specific objectives include preparation of college students for service in the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the event of an emergency and their training to become reservists and potential commissioned officers of the AFP. 2. Literacy Training Service (LTS) - The LTS is "a program designed to train students to become teachers of literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out of school youth, and other segments of society“. 3. Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) - CWTS activities "are contributory to the general welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement of its facilities, especially those devoted to improving health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and morals o f the citizenry".

Draw the geographical area of your barangay and show location of the social services provided by the local government, private and non-government sectors. 3. In your barangay, what are the common problems you have observed that need to address and should be given by the community people like you?
  • 25. What is COMMUNITY IMMSERSION? -is an intensive study in campus and field experience on becoming a future leader, community organizer or even a future educator. It would help individuals learn some life “skills” helps them meet others, helps them socially and most importantly to help other community members see them a people with “worth”.

What is Community Immersion in NSTP? -Community immersion is a strategy in community organizing that is sought to. imbibe among the NSTP trainees a better understanding and realization of the. different community concerns through the exposure on actual life situations. specifically in the deprived, depressed and the underprivileged (DDU) communities.
  • 27. -it is a version of service learning that is more integrated with student’s passions and interests, is longer-term and is related to the on-going development of community and social justice issue. -Community Immersion learning fulfills many of the school’s goals for students – becoming involved citizens, learning through worthwhile tasks, and developing leadership, advocacy and problem-solving skills.
  • 28. Importance of Community Immersion Community Immersion Program- a social strategy in education and training designed to bridge the gap between theoretical instruction and the realities of community work through experiential learning.
  • 29. Benefits of a Community Immersion to the Studens 1. Community service develops an increased sense of social responsibility – a global view of society and a heart for ‘giving back’ and helping others. 2. Provides an opportunity to apply academic learning to real life events. 3. Builds relationships and ‘social connectedness’ with peers and adults, and exposes students to diversity and multiculturalism. 4. Improves lifelong communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills. 5. Helps students find their passions and interests that may lead to a career choice they may have not considered.
