OBJECTIVE
At the end of the presentation you will be able to
plan, create, and deliver effective presentation.
Introduction
An effective presentation makes the best use of
the relationship between the presenter and the
audience.
It takes full consideration of the audience’s
needs in order to capture their interest, develop
their understanding, inspire their confidence and
achieve the presenter’s objectives.
1. HOW TO PLAN EFFECTIVE
PRESENTATION.
 Preparation
 Choose your main points
 Establish linking statements
 Develop an open introduction
 Develop a conclusion
 Review your presentation
A. Preparation
Many factors affect the design of your
presentation. As a powerful presenter you must
acknowledge and address the following points;
 Objectives
 Audience
 venue
continued
Objectives
Why are you making the presentation?
This is the question that has to come in mind.
What you want to achieve and what you want
your audience to take away with them.
continued
Once you have been able to determine
the objective of your presentation then
you are in a better position to make
decisions about the design of your
presentation.
continued
Audience
Your audience will have a variety of
different experiences, interest levels of
knowledge. You need to acknowledge
these and prepare for and respond to
them.
continued
Ask yourself;
 How well does your audience know about
your topic?
 How can you link new material to things they
already understand?
continued
You may not be able to answer these
questions for each audience but have
enough information to ensure that you
have targeted your material at the right
level of their needs.
continued
Venue
Where will you be making your presentation?
How will the room be like? You have to know all
these questions.
B. CHOOSE YOUR MAIN TOPIC
Once you have thought about the design of your
presentation, you can develop your main topic.
Ask yourself;
 What are the main points you wish to make?
 Are these points structured in a logical or coherent
way?
 Do your main points reflect your objectives and
takes account of your audience?
C. ESTABLISH LINKING
STATEMENTS
The next stage is to develop the linear flow of
your presentation. This can be achieved by
using linking statements to show clearly how
your main points fit together.
continued
Some of the linking statements are;
 “ The next stage in your project was to….”
 “ Another important issue of
consideration…”
The linking statements send a signals to your
audience, highlighting the next point of your
statement.
D. DEVELOP AN OPEN INTRODUCTION
The introduction to your presentation is crucial. It
is your first point of contact with your audience,
you can either capture or lose your audience’s
interest in a matter of seconds.
Try to use the following structure;
 Introduce yourself
 State what you will be talking about(eg. Topic
or subject area)
continued
 State how you will be talking about the
topic(eg, by comparing test result or reviewing
supporting literature ).
 State what you intend to be the outcome of
your presentation( eg, lively discussion)
continued
 State what you expect your audience to
do(eg, listen, take notes, ask questions before
or after you presentation)
Always give your audience a moment to absorb
these information before moving into your first
main topic.
E. DEVELOP A CONCLUSION
Your conclusion is another important stage in
your presentation. You can use it to remind your
audience of your main points.
leave your audience with a lasting impression of
the quality of your presentation.
F. REVIEW YOUR PRESENTATION
Once you have written your presentation make
sure that you review its contents. Ask yourself;
 Does the presentation meet your objectives?
 Is it logically structured?
 Have you targeted the material at the right
level for your audience?
 Is this presentation too long or too short?
2. HOW TO CREATE EFFECTIVE
PRESENTATION.
 Minimize the number of slides
 Choose a font size that your audience can
read from a distance
 Keep your text simple by using bullet points or
using short sentence
 Make labels for charts and graphics
 Make slide backgrounds consistence
 Check the spelling and grammar.
3.HOW TO DELIVER EFFECTIVE
PRESENTATION.
A. Practice
The more familiar you are with your material the
more you will be able to inspire your audience’s
trust and confident. Try to read your materials
several times before presenting in order to be
familiar with your materials.
continued
B. Assert yourself
You need to be assertive but not aggressive.
There are two important things you have to note
 Posture : it is important to appear confident
at all times. First impression counts, dress
corporate and stand upright.
continued
 Presence : have the confidence to fill your
space in front of the audience. Avoid
apologizing for your present by saying ’’sorry ”
( although you must be polite ) but if
circumstances demand for that like running
over time you can apologize for that.
C. Make contact with your audience
One of the key challenges faced by many
presenters is to established links with their
audience.
Making contact helps to maintain the audience’s
interest and encourages them to believe that
you are genuinely interested in talking to them.
continued
You can make contact with your audience in a
number of ways like;
 Eye contact
 gestures
D. Use your voice
Your voice is very flexible and powerful tool.
You can use it in many different ways by varying the;
 Volume : make sure your voice is loud enough for
your audience to hear clearly.
 Pace : make sure the speed of your delivery is
easy to follow. If you speak too quickly or too
slowly, your audience will have it difficult in
following your speech.
E. Breath
Always remember to breath steadily or deeply. If
you are an anxious about presentation, your
breathing will become fast and shallow.
F. Drink
It is a good idea to have water with you to
quench your thirst especially if you are speaking
for too long.
CONCLUSION
Try to explore your personal style using any of
the above information in different combination
for different effects. Above all remember two
main points;
 Be yourself
 Avoid any behavior that might be off-putting to
your audience.
Always be clear with of your voice and physical
actions.
