Katy Perry's 2008 album "One of the Boys" has a feminine, girlish theme carried throughout the album packaging. The front cover features a mid-shot of Perry lying on a beach wearing short clothes and biting her shades, giving it a sensual feel. The inside continues this theme with a close-up of Perry in a light makeup look reflecting 1990s girl style. Imagery of fruits and flowers on the inlay and back cover reinforce the summery, girlish theme. While the CD itself only lists the artist and album name in the same girly font, the packaging overall presents a cohesive feminine visual theme for the album.
2. Introduction
Katy Perry's music frequently contains elements
of pop, rock, electronic, dance, and disco.
Her album ‘One of the Boys’ was released on the 17th of
June, 2008.
One of the Boys debuted at number nine on the
US Billboard 200, with 47,000 copies sold in the first-
week released.
3. Front Cover
Usually the front cover has a close
up of the artist. However, the front
cover of ‘One of the Boys’ has the
mid shot of the artist lying on a
beach seat. The name of the artist
has been written in gummy pink and
the font is girlish designed with
hearts around it. As seen in the
image, the artist is biting on her
shades giving the overall image a
sensual feel. Most of the things are
in baby pink color and the shades of
pink, making the cover more
feminine. The artist is wearing short
clothes and almost every prop that
has been used gives the overall cover
a gentle look.
4. Inside
The inside of this digipak has a mid
close-up of the artist. Her makeup
has been done very light and it
reflects the typical girl of early 90’s.
The artist is facing towards her right
however she is looking towards the
camera which shows her confidence
and creates an appeal, attracting
people towards her.
The inside has the links the artist
“Katy Perry” and the website of the
recording company is also given that
is “Capitol”. Other than these are the
rights published on the inside.
5. Inlay
The inlay has an image of a fully
ripened fruit tray, continuing the
theme of the summer-spring season
throughout the album. The grass in
the image is also fresh. The left side
of the inlay has a strip of the fence
and the flowers which were seen on
the front cover.
The image has a mid-shot of the
fruits again reinforce the girly theme
of the album cover.
6. CD
The cd has the artist name written on
the top in the same girly font as on
the front cover. Bel0w it, is the album
name “One Of The Boys” again
written in the same font as on the
cover. The background however is
blank white and has nothing to do
with the theme of the album. But it
can be justified by saying that this is
done to emphasize the album name
and the artist name. In the end are
the copyrights of the tracks of the
album written in a grayish color. The
last comes the logo of the producing
company.
7. Back Cover
The back cover has the mid-shot of the artist
standing and looking in the camera. Her face
is tilted towards the left. She’s wearing the
same dress as on the front cover to show the
continuity of the theme. The mise-en-scene
of the back cover reflects that of a summer-
spring season, same as was throughout the
album. Rule-of-third has been applied to the
image where the artist is at the right side of
the album. To the top left are the name of the
songs written in a white color and a girly font
with a heart and pink outlining around it. To
the bottom left corner is the barcode printed
with which are printed the links of different
websites related to the album. Once again
the copyrights have been published. On both
the sides are the spines printed which has the
name of the album and the artist and the
production company along with a certain
serial number
