CRYSTAL RISES FROM ITS BASE WITH SCULPTURAL FACETS
THAT INFER MOVEMENT AND ALLOW FOR VARIED VIEWS
AROUND THE NEIGHBORING TOWERS.
THE FACETED CRYSTAL DESIGN IS COMPLEMENTED BY BOTH
THE CLEAR GLASS CURTAIN WALL AND THE TAUTNESS OF THE
SKIN’S DETAIL.
THE CURTAIN WALL IS MADE OF LOW-E GLASS AND HEAT-
REFLECTING CERAMIC FRIT.
CRISP FOLDS AND PRECISE VERTICAL LINES ARE ANIMATED BY
THE MOVEMENT OF THE SUN AND MOON.
THE SOUTH-FACING FACET TURNS TO ADDRESS ITS PROMINENT

FACING THE SKY AND SUN, THE SLOPED WALLS ADMIT MORE

EFFECTIVE IN CAPTURING RAINWATER FOR COLLECTION AND

10. ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL
SYSTEM
AT NIGHT, THE ON-SITE POWER PLANT PROVIDES THE ENERGY
TO MAKE LARGE AMOUNTS OF ICE, WHICH IS STORED IN TANKS
AND USED TO HELP COOL THE BUILDING DURING THE DAY.
THEREFORE THE POWER PLANT REDUCES THE BUILDINGS PEAK
(DAYTIME) POWER DEMAND ON THE UTILITY GRID IN TWO
WAYS.
ON-SITE POWER GENERATION ELIMINATES ELECTRICAL
TRANSMISSION LOSSES THAT ARE SIGNIFICANT IN THE
DISTRIBUTION GRID WHICH RELIES UPON CENTRALIZED
GENERATING PLANTS.
IN A PROCESS CALLED COGENERATION, WASTE HEAT FROM THE
POWER PLANT IS USED TO MAKE STEAM WHICH POWERS
CHILLING MACHINES TO COOL THE BUILDING, AS WELL AS
PROVIDING HOT WATER FOR HEATING.
THE PLANT ALSO PRODUCES ALL OF THE BUILDING’S HOT
WATER WITHOUT OUTSIDE ENERGY.
AT THE CORE OF THE BUILDING’S ENERGY SYSTEM, IS A 4.6MW

JDP DESIGNED, FABRICATED AND INSTALLED THE
BASE BUILDING HVAC PIPING AND EQUIPMENT,
INCLUDING CHILLERS, PUMPS, COOLING TOWERS,
AND ICE STORAGE TANKS.
THE ICE-STORAGE FACILITIES IN THE BASEMENT
MAKE ICE AT OFF-PEAK HOURS TO KEEP THE
BUILDING COOL THE NEXT DAY.
FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM:
THE MULTI STAGE PEERLESS FIRE PUMP PROVIDES
BASEMENT TO CEILING PRESSURE FOR THE
MANUAL FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM IN THE
BUILDING.
THE MULTI-ZONE AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER FIRE
SYSTEM ALSO USES PEERLESS PUMPS AS THEIR
SOURCE.
OVER 40 PEERLESS PUMPS ARE INSTALLED AND
WORKING IN THE BUILDING
12. SUSTAINABILITY
THE BUILDING WILL SAVE 10.3 MILLION GALLONS
OF WATER ANNUALLY THROUGH SUCH DEVICES AS
WATERLESS URINALS AND LOW-FLOW FIXTURES.
BY COLLECTING RAINWATER, CONSERVES 17
MILLION GALLONS OF POTABLE WATER EACH
YEAR.
THIS BUILDING USES AN ONSITE NATURAL GAS-
FUELED POWER PLANT TO PROVIDE 70% OF
ANNUAL ELECTRICAL POWER NEEDS, AND ABOUT
30% OF PEAK DEMAND
THIS BUILDING USED FLY-ASH, A RECYCLED
MATERIAL, TO SAVE 45% OF THE CEMENT THAT
WOULD HAVE BEEN USED IN CONCRETE;
REDUCING WASTE AND ELIMINATING A
SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF POLLUTION THAT IS
CAUSED BY THE MANUFACTURE OF CEMENT.
RECYCLED STEEL AND OTHER MATERIALS WERE
ALSO USED 83% OF CONSTRUCTION WASTE WAS
RECYCLED, AND DIVERTED FROM LANDFILLS.
13. SENSORS TO CONTROL INDOOR AIR QUALITY AND
VENTILATION. ALL OF THE FRESH AIR USED IN THE
BUILDING IS COLLECTED AT ROOF LEVEL AND TREATED
BY HIGHLY EFFICIENT FILTERS BEFORE BEING
DISTRIBUTED TO INDOOR SPACES.
THE BANK OF AMERICA TOWER WILL REDUCE ENERGY
CONSUMPTION BY 50%, POTABLE WATER CONSUMPTION
BY 50%, AND CREATE NET ZERO CARBON DIOXIDE
EMISSIONS.
A GRAY WATER SYSTEM WILL
CAPTURE, STORE, AND RE-USE
100% OF RAINWATER AND
RECYCLE WASTE WATER AND
PLANTED ROOFS, REDUCING THE
URBAN HEAT ISLAND EFFECT.
