SI Widnes has a strong history of working or volunteering in education and several of our members have strong links with India
Vathsala and Radha come from Bangalore and still have strong family and friendship ties there, which led to a friendship link between the two clubs.
We were delighted when SI Bangalore invited us to join them in the Brindavan project, which allowed us to combine our common interests in education and India.
We would now like to share with you a video about the project, which has been produced by SI Bangalore as they are, unfortunately, unable to join us here in Gateshead.
We feel that the Brindavan project epitomises the 3 E’s as SI Bangalore’s video has shown.
One of our fundraising events for the project was a walk to a local landmark, ‘Dream’. We feel that this represented our aims as ‘Dream’ takes the form of a girl’s head. With her eyes closed in a dream like state. The sculptor says “in our dreams, anything is possible…”
Her name is ‘Dream’She stands up highAgainst the sky,A sculpture white and bright. We’re walking up towards herAnd now our dreams take flightTo India, to Bangalore,To young girls who are givenUndreamed of opportunitiesAnd hope filled possibilities,Supported by SoroptimistsAnd nurtured by Brindavan.
