A wireless technology that has a range of only a few inches.
It is based on the magnetic field induction between readers and
tags in a radio frequency identification (RFID) system.
Adhering to the ISO 14443 international standard for smart
cards, near field communication (NFC) is compatible with the
countless ID card terminals in use around the world.

Is there a far field communication?
Yes there exist,can be considered the twin of NFC.
The far field region of an electromagnetic field starts
approximately two wavelengths from the antenna and extends
outward
As the distance increases, the strength of the electromagnetic
field decreases equal to the square of the distance the field is
from the antenna
If the signal is picked up by another antenna this has no effect
on the original antenna signal
