1. THE STAR IMAGE OF OUR ARTIST

2. HOW ARE WE GOING TO MAKE OUR
ARTIST ORGANIC?
 Our artist will be playing a guitar in the music video to demonstrate his
authenticity and that the focus is on the music..
 There won’t be any dancing as this is a standard feature of music videos for
synthetic artists.
 Our artist will also be wearing very casual clothing which hasn’t been cleverly
styled as appearance isn’t as important for organic artists as it is for synthetic
artists.
 In nearly all music videos for synthetic artists, most of the camera shots are of
the artist, however a lot of the shots in our organic music video are of the
girlfriend without the singer to show the narrative.

3. WHAT IS THE ARTIST WEARING?
 The artist will be wearing casual clothing to emphasise his organic star image as
he hasn’t been styled to appeal to an audience, but has decided upon his own
style. This laid back and relaxed style will be reflected in his narrative character
who is just being himself and would like his girlfriend to be herself, instead of
pretending to be someone she isn’t. He will wear a hat which again emphasises
that he has his own style as his hair can be messy. He will also have a rucksack
for the school scenes.

 Hozier
 Tom Odell
 George Ezra

5. HOZIER
 Hozier plays the guitar like our artist
 He writes his own songs which further shows him to be organic
 His music is less auto-tuned than synthetic artists and is his
natural voice
 His clothing appears casual and laid back and his hair is long
and messy which demonstrates him to be an organic artist who
makes his own stylistic decisions
 He has simple performances with no dancing and so purely
displays his musical talents rather than being distracted by
other elements – it is just a man and his guitar

6. TOM ODELL
 Tom Odell plays the piano in his music videos and live on
stage
 He also writes his own songs and isn’t handed them by his
record label
 Like our artist, there is no dancing in his videos or whenever he
performs as the focus is on the music
 He also has casual clothing and long hair that hasn’t been
styled
 Image is not a key feature of this artist, instead it is his songs
that he takes pride in

7. GEORGE EZRA
 George Ezra also plays guitar
 He writes his own songs from his experiences
 His casual clothing isn’t very outgoing and doesn’t stand out
much like the other artists so nobody is distracted from the music
 There isn’t any dancing during his performances either so people
are not distracted in this way
 He is able to relate to his audiences well as his performances are
simple and toned-down without a lot going on

8. TARGET AUDIENCE OF INDIE/ORGANIC
ARTISTS
 Our target audience is the same as the previous artists shown.
 Organic artists tend to have a larger range of audiences as they are natural and
laid back and so can appeal to many different people, whereas synthetic artists
are usually constructed to be aimed at a younger, specific audience.
 From our research that we have done, shown in other blog posts, we can see
that the older end of the audience may like this type of genre but may not
necessarily watch the video because it is not part of their generation as music
videos were much less common many years ago.
 The song may not attract as large an audience as some synthetic artists, but the
overall range of ages that it may appeal to is larger as it should achieve an
audience of people of ages from around 15-40.

9. WHAT IS THE ARTIST DOING IN THE MUSIC
VIDEO TO SELL THEIR STAR IMAGE?
 Our artist will be playing guitar in a few shots in the music video to connote that
he is an organic artist who plays his own instrument
 His clothes also helps show that he is organic as it is not fancy clothing
 He won’t be dancing as dancing is standard in synthetic videos

10. WHAT FONT WILL WE USE TO SELL HIS
IMAGE?
As a group we haven't chosen a specific font but we have some ideas of how we
might want it to look:
 We could use a font that looks handwritten to connote that the artist has a
personal connection to the song/album
 We could make it a soft colour to demonstrate that he is a natural artist
 The artist’s name should be in bold instead of the album itself to get the artist’s
name out there and noticed as he is a new artist
