In a worldwhere womenstill struggle to findequalityin the
workplace,Lilly employeesare taking the initiative to challenge the
status quo.
One such employee isNehaTayshetye,Human ResourcesManager
from LillyIndia. She recentlywon the Workplace Champion Award for
her significantcontributionand leadershipinthe advancementof
women’sinitiativesinthe workplace.
“InIndia, we have a culturally conservative society.Womeninthe
workplace isstill not a common affair, but we will continue to provide
more opportunitiesforwomen employees,”Tayshetye saidabout the
cultural differencesbetweenIndiaand the U.S.
In a country with one of the largestgenderdisparity indexesinthe
world, she has relentlesslypursueddiversityandinclusiondespite the
obviousobstacles.
As part of Lilly’sGlobal DiversityInitiatives,she developedand
implementedSupervisorSensitivityTraining,was involvedinthe
developmentofthe Sexual Harassment PreventionPolicy,is actively
involvedwithLilly Women’sIndiaNetwork(LWIN),and helpsto ensure
fair recruitmentpractices for the female staff.
These types ofrecruitment practicesare essential toour industry; “We
cannot afford to onlylook at 50 percentof the talent.Bringing in new
perspectiveswill onlyresultin positivity,” Tayshetye said.
In our industry, in order to effectivelydiscovernewmedicines,we
have to challenge eachother’s ideasand think outside of the box,but
more importantly,we have to be able to understand our diverse
patientpopulation. Diversityand collaboration are keyin achieving
these goals.
So what isthe bottom line?
Diversitybreedsinnovation.By relyingon multidimensional
approaches, we can findthe bestsolutionsfor the most diverse
