5. Influence terms refer to social control, not control over nature. It is also a place-holder for the whole family. A relation among actors
such that the wants, desires, preferences, or intentions of one or more actors affect the actions, or predispositions to act, of one or more other
actors (Dahl, 1990).
In this chapter, the author, Robert Dahl, would like to postpone the discussion with regards to influence terms. It will allow the readers
to conceptualize how we should describe influence. He provided examples to further understand it.

their opinion on work
situations?
Q: When there is a decisions to be made
regarding work, who makes those
decisions and how do you hear about it?
A: Never. Never. Never. You hear a lot
of rumors. And then you just see it
posted up. The employees are not
consulted at all, or do not have any say
or anything as far as being involved in
any changed… B: who? Us? Listen to us? They
don’t know us from the fork
trucks. They just want us to do
our jobs, not make trouble and
go quietly out the door. That’s
what I do. When I tell them
something, they don’t listen
anyway.
A: it’s made way over our heads and we hear about it at
the last – we don’t have say at all, if that’s what you are
asking me. The hourly people don’t count. It’s a terrible
state of affairs. I see it happening every day and it’s
getting worse.

14. To some extent describing influence is attainable by providing examples to further understand it. It is a relation among actors (actors refer to individuals or
collectivities) such that the wants, desires, preferences, or intentions of one or more actors affect the actions, or predispositions to act, of one or more other actors.
Furthermore, it’s been said that political scientist frequently do not define these terms (influence terms); and when they do, they do not necessarily define
them in the same way.
Moreover, nadir of control more likely refers to a state of being as a man when he himself can’t control his self. Apparently, some of the reasons why a
simple analysis is complicated and not simple is due to distribution, groups, gradations, potential and achieved power, scope and domain, individual and collective
power, sphere of control, and consciousness.
