Teacher Statement
This Power Point web quest will be exported into a Promethean
Inspire flipchart or Smart notebook so that it can projected onto
an interactive whiteboard. Once the web quest is projected onto
the whiteboard, students can click on the links, make circles on
the slides, etc.
3. Introduction
Your group is going to make a video of the book There
Is a Bird on Your Head! by Mo Willems. Before you
make your own video, you participate in some activities
that will help you learn more about the author and
illustrator Mo Willems.
4. When you finish this web quest, you will make your own video of
There Is a Bird on Your Head! Mrs. Sanjana will film the video on her
flip camera and you and your family can watch it on the ESL class
website. You will be an actor, even if we can't see your face! When
you pretend you are Piggie or Elephant, you will want to show how
they feel. You and your partner should think about how the
characters in this book feel. Let's start by watching a video with
Mo Willems.
Task

Click on the link below and listen for what Mr. Willems says is
important in every book he writes.

That’s right, love, jealousy, anger and frustration are all
emotions. You are going to think about emotions in There Is a
Bird on Your Head!
6. Students reading Bird on Your H
Listen for emotions as you watch some other
students read There is a Bird on Your Head!
Click on the link above.
16. Practice making up words for Elephant or Piggie. What is
Elephant thinking? What is Piggie thinking?
17. Try to act out Elephant’s
comment. Read the sentence
with feeling as if you are
Elephant.
18. Work with a partner to read There Is a Bird on Your
Head! out loud with feeling. Decide who will be
Elephant and who will be Piggie. You won’t really need
to act. Someone from another group will turn the
pages while you read as loud and with as much feeling
as you can. When you are done, the video will show
the pictures from the book, but we will hear your
voices reading. Mrs. Sanjana will film you when you
are ready.
