2. INTRODUCTION
• Marco Zappacosta is a co-founder and CEO of Thumbtack.
Marco started Thumbtack after graduating from Columbia
University.
• Launched in January 1st, 2009
• HQ is located in SanFrancisco
• Thumbtack is a consumer service that helps millions of
people accomplish the personal projects that are central to
their lives.
• At Thumbtack people hire pros from custom quotes sent
within hours
4. INSPIRATION
Food - centric
• The term “office” doesn’t suit the Thumbtack culture – their product is a welcoming
interface, their HQ feels like a studio, and the people who work there are like family
• ‘Residential-ized’ design approach to the space, and striking a balance between
individual and ‘family’ needs.
• Eat lunch together around a table
A team that eats together learns, connects, develops friendships, and collaborates
more.
• Have a weekly all-hands dinner
Wednesday nights for dinner helps break the hump-day doldrums.
• Hire a Chef
A manager’s job to take away all the pains of everyday life so engineers can focus on
what they’re good at: engineering. Take away the hassle of finding food.
• Invite Guests
This is a great way to network, grow awareness about your company, and learn from all
sorts of people you wouldn’t know otherwise.
• Don’t buy Vending Machines
Pollan’s rule is “Don’t eat anything that won’t eventually rot” and “If it came from a
plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don’t.”
• Provide Sane Breakfast
“Don’t eat breakfast cereals the change the color of the milk”
• Coffee, Tea and Espresso are Good
Caffeine is clearly an aid to concentration, inspiration, and productivity.
• Eat food, not too much, mostly plants
“Eat foods, not nutrients,” Pollan writes. “Stay out of the middle of the supermarket.”
FOOD RULES ADOPTED AT THUMBTACK
Thumbtack’s chef makes all our meals from
scratch, starting with fresh, seasonal, and often
local ingredients. She works hard to build
balanced meals that would make the food
pyramid jealous. We stay full, stay healthy, and
stay at the office.
5. “THE FOOD-CENTRIC HUB”
CONCEPT
Food brings people together from all areas of life and the work environment is no
exception. Giving employees the opportunity to interact in a social setting helps form
a foundation for a positive office environment. The Hub is the heart of the office just
like the kitchen is the heart of a home. The food centric hub has designated areas for
snacking that lures the employees to take a break and have a snack. This provides an
opportunity to connect, brainstorm, communicate and observe your surroundings.
This lives up to the moto “ Work hard and Eat well”.

as the main pivot/ factor
that is important to the
office culture. The
workstations surround
the Hub. Other parts of
the office such as
collaborative spaces,
private offices, meeting
rooms are towards the
edges. The role of the
“hub” is to bring together
everyone in the office as
a family.

MAIL CUBBIES FOR THE EMPLOYESS
RECEPTION AND WAITING LOUNGE
WORKSTATIONS The mail cubby is situated behind the reception desk which makes
it easy for them to put the respective deliveries into the cubby.
The employees can enter the workplace and first take their mails
before going to their station.
There is no wall between the reception area and the main open
office. The cubby acts as a partition with small opening in between
that gives a small glimpse of the office and the space.

UNIQUE SPACE – “THE HUB”
Giving employees the opportunity to interact in a
social setting helps form a foundation for a positive
office environment. The Hub is the heart of the
office just like the kitchen is the heart of a home.
26. 3D RENDER
THE WORKSPACE
The workstations are placed around the HUB which is the focal point
of the office. Comfortable collaborative spaces and personal
cocoons/pods are situated near the workstations for the employees
to use them when needed giving them the feel of working in a
residential-ized setting.
