• RADAR
Radar sensors are used to detect dangerous
objects in vehicle’s path and trigger alerts if
detect something.
• OPTICS
Camera mounted near the rear-view mirror
not only spots hazards like pedestrians and
animals, but also identifies road markings and
traffic signals.
• LIDAR
Light Detection And Ranging(LIDAR) consists of
emitter, mirror and receiver. It generates a map
of its surroundings and uses the map to avoid
objects.

• GPS
Global Positioning System(GPS) keeps the car
on its intended route with an accuracy of 30
cms.
• PROCESSORS
Processors are needed to make sense of the
data collected by various car instruments.

5. Other Big Players
• By 2020, GM, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Nissan, BMW, Renault, Tesla and
Google all expect to sell vehicles that can drive themselves at least part
of the time.
• By 2020, Google aims to have all outstanding problems with the
autonomous car be resolved.
• Uber is working on a driverless taxi system aiming to make cab system
so cheap that owning a car would seem to be expensive.
• By 2018, Elon Musk expects Tesla Motors to have developed
mature serial production version of fully self-driving cars, where the
driver can fall asleep.
• By 2024, Jaguar expects to release an autonomous car.
