2. Today we are very fortunate to have among us,
Lieutenant General Abdul Hafiz,(RETD).
Maj General A K M Abdullahhil Baquee.
and
Mr Syed Nasim Manzur
who all are going to speak in today’s Leadership seminer.
LIEUTENANT GENERAL ABDUL HAFIZ, ndc, psc (RETD)
3. Ladies and gentlemen, the first topic is “Military Leadership in 21ST
Century” which will be presented by Lieutenant General Abdul Hafiz(RETD).
4. General Hafiz was commissioned on 08 May 1977 in the corps of infantry. In
his illustrious military carrier, the General had a fine mix of all three types of
appointments.
5. In the capacity of staff appointment, General Hafiz served as the Brigade
Major of an Infantry Brigade, as General Staff officer-1(operations) in the Armed
Forces Division and as Colonel Staff of an Infantry Division.
6. His instructional appointments include serving as instructor Class B in the
School of Infantry and Tactics, as a Directing Staff in DSCSC, Mirpur and as
Battalion Commander of Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA).
7. The General commanded two infantry Battalions those were engaged in
counter insurgency operations in Chittagong Hill Tracts. He also commanded two
Infantry Brigades and was the Commandant of the Bangladesh Military Academy.
8. As a Major General, he served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC)
and Area Commander of Comilla Area. He was also the Director General of
2. Bangladesh Ansar& VDP. Finally, he served as Chief of General Staff (CGS) in
Bangladesh Army from May 2009 to March 2010.
9. General Hafiz has a very distinguished record of serving under the Blue
Helmet. He served twice as the Force Commander in two UN missions-in UNOCI in
Ivory Coast and later in MINURSO in Western Sahara.
10. General Hafiz is a proud Mirpurian. He did his “Infantry Officers Advance
Course” in USA and is a graduate of ‘Inter Services War College’, France. He is also
a graduate of Nations Defence College, Bangladesh.
11. He is a widely travelled person and has left his foot-steps in all the inhabited
continents of the world. He is very fluent in French language. He also takes keen
interest in global security issues and role of United Nations in Peace Support
Operations.

12. Ladies and gentlemen, next in speaker is, Maj General A K M Abdullahhil
Baquee .he is going to speak on “What defines military leadership more
Suitable- leadership in its classical sense or more of management?”
13. General Baquee, was commissioned on 01 June 1984 in the corps of infantry.
In his illustrious military carrier, the General has a fine mix of all the types of
appointments.
14. In the capacity of staff appointment, General Baquee served General Staff
Officer-2 in General Staff Branch and Deputy Assistant Military Secretary , Military
secretary Br of Army Headquarters, General Staff Officer-2, Counter Insurgency
Branch of Headquarters 24 Infantry Division, General Staff Officer-1, Headquarters
Director General of Forces Intelligence and Col Staff in 66 Infantry Division.

16. The General Commanded one Infantry and Tactics. As a Major General, he
served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 11 Infantry Division and Area
3. Commander Bogra Area. At Present ,he is serving as Military Secretary of Military
Secretary’s Branch.
17. General Baquee served under the Blue Helmet in two UN millions – in
UNIKOM, Kuwait and in UNMIS, Sudan.
18. General Baquee did his Basic Para Course from Indonesia and also took part
in Counter Terrorism Fellowship Program at National Defence University, USA. He is
a proud Mirpurian and also a graduate of Command and General Staff College,
Turkey and National Defence University, South Korea.
19. He is a widely travelled person and has the passion of learning different
languages. He now fluently speak in Indonesian, Turkish and Korean language. The
General is happily married and having a son and a daughter.
MR SYED NASIM MANZUR
20. Ladies and gentlemen, our next speaker is, Mr Syed Nasim Manzur. He is
going to speak on “Do you think an organization should adopt a specific
leadership style or develop its own from a blend of assorted leadership
technique”
21. Syed Nasim Manzur is the Managing Derector of Apex Footwear Ltd, the
largest leather footwear manufacturer and exporter in Bangladesh.
22. While developing fashion foot wear as is his prime passion,Mr Nasim
participated in the management of Syed Manzur Elahi Enterprises, a diverse
business group in Bangladesh that includes Apex Tannery Ltd, Apex Pharma ltd,
Apex Investments Ltd, landmark Footwear Ltd and joint-venture companies like, Blue
Ocean Footwear Ltd, Grey Advertising Bangladesh Ltd and Quantum Consumer
Solutions Ltd.
23. As a representative of the new emerging Bangladesh private sector, he was
selected to join the Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit, kuala Lumpur in November,
2009 and the Global Forbes CEO Forum in Dubai in 2012. He was also a Member
Delegate from Bangladesh at the WTO 10th Ministerial Conference, 2015 at Nairobi,
Kenya.
4. 24. Syed Nasim Manzur completed his BSc Economics in entrepreneurial
management from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1990. He came
back to Bangladesh pursuing a dream to set up world-class and globally competitive
leather shoe manufacturing in Bangladesh using an appropriate mix of modern
technology and human resource development.
25. He conducted a course in International Business at the undergraduate level
at the institute of Business Administration (IBA), Dhaka and also is a regular guest
speaker at the National Defense College (NDC).
26. Mr Nasim is currently serving his second tenure as President of Metropolitan
Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dhaka (MCCI), the oldest business chamber in
Bangladesh. He is also the immediate past President of Leather goods and
Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB).
27. Mr Nasim currently serves on the Boards of various organizations. those are;
Pioneer Insurance Limited, Guardian Life Insurance Company, International
Publications Limited (the owning company of The Financial Express), Society for
Promotion of Bangladesh Art (SPBA) and FREENDSHIP which provides health and
educational service in remote and inaccessible chars of the Northern region of the
Country & Savar Golf and country Club.
28. Mr Nasim Manzur also serves as Core Member of CITIZENS PLATFORM
which launched to support the government’s efforts in pursuing the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs).
29. Ladies and gentlemen, the vast experience and versatile knowledge of our
today’s guests have made them the most appropriate persons to be before us on
today’s subject.
