5. PLAYING CAREER – CLUB LEVEL
Barrow Kendal Town
Lancaster City Clitheroe
I played for Barrow in what is now the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League. I was part of a
successful Kendal Town squad that narrowly missed out in the play-offs to gaining promotion to
the Conference North. My time at Clitheroe was part of a talented, highly team spirited group of
players that produced some of the best football in recent times for the club.
SUMMARY
I believe I have served the perfect apprenticeship in management and I am now extremely
confident of moving my career on to the next level.
My time spent as a player under Kenny Lowe, Neil Reynolds, Tony Hesketh & Lee Ashcroft gave
me a great foundation from which to move into management. The belief others had in my
leadership qualities makes me very proud and continues to inspire me to succeed.
Another positive characteristic of mine, and one that will remain with me, is that I am never afraid
to ask for advice. The reason is that I have a huge desire to learn – and a good way to become a
better leader in my opinion is to source knowledge from all different kinds of people in the game
and draw on their experiences as well as my own.
In short, I believe I have an excellent reputation in non-league football through having great
knowledge, attention to detail, well connected and being winner; qualities that will stand me in
good stead to be a success wherever I coach.
