Safe Routes to School is a program that started in 2007 to promote walking and biking to school through education, engineering, enforcement, encouragement and evaluation. The proposal seeks to expand the program to serve one middle school and one high school each year in addition to the five elementary schools currently served annually. The expansion would cost $200,000 per year and provide safety, health, community and environmental benefits to students in secondary schools just as it has for elementary schools.
