SEECOL’s solar lamp is designed to fulfill the basic need for light in the rural areas of the developing countries. In developing countries the solar lamp is a cheap alternative to a Solar Home System (SHS) providing 4-5 hours of high quality lighting service. It provides higher quality light than the use of candles or kerosene lamps. Solar Lamps are also used to provide street lighting in rural areas. In this case Light Emitting Diode (LED) solar lamps are usually used.

• About 39% of households in rural India still use
kerosene to meet their lighting requirements
(Sources: National Sample Service Office
statistics). Kerosene lamp is a source of poor
quality light; produces greenhouse gas emissions
and most importantly, have significant health and
safety hazards associated with it. Thus the need
for an alternative solution for rural lighting arises.
SEECOL’s LED (light emitting diode) based Solar
Lamps is an initiative to provide a low cost
solution for rural home lighting requirements in
India and other countries.
4. Solar Lamps
• In India around 95,000 villages are still not connected to the
power grid and approximately 18,000 villages are unlikely to
ever have access to the national grid due to their remote
location. Around 62 million rural households depend upon
kerosene to meet their day-to-day lighting needs.
• SEECOL’s solar lamp will allow rural India to access lighting and
thereby replacing kerosene with the portable LED based solar
lamps. This unique product range offers a wide array of
benefits including reduced air pollution, improved studying
conditions for children, safety from kerosene lighting led
accidents, cost effectiveness, generating more work capacity
and potentially higher income by offering night work
opportunity to skilled labourers with a better light source.
