Career Highlights
Leadership/Decision Making/Incident Management
• Hand selected by superiors to serve as SWAT Commander and asked to fill a void in department
leadership and decision-making. Leveraged leadership abilities and operational experience to earn
the respect of team members. During my 6-years of leadership over the SWAT Team, we were
100% successful in achieving operational results with no loss of life from tactical members or
suspects.
• Served as key leader and decision-maker on several critical incident cases, including a life-
threatening standoff and a major flood. Leveraged crisis management experience, communication
and decision-making skills, and public relations experience to achieve successful outcomes.
Change Management
• Led the implementation of a significant and controversial change in the direction and scope of
department drug unit, including leading the transition from an undercover unit to a uniformed
interdiction unit. Results included a 457% increase in drug arrests, leading the State of Kansas in
marijuana plant seizures, overseeing the largest single narcotics cash seizure in the department’s
history, and effectively changing the perceptions of unit officers and dissenters.
Risk Management/Safety/Project Management
• Initiated and led programs to identify, mitigate, and manage department risks, including analyzing
core risks and implementing cost-effective solutions to protect department officers. Results
included utilization of robots to mitigate surveillance risk and pro-actively utilizing body cameras
to improve training, reduce complaints, create significant efficiencies in investigations, and
improve prosecution results.
• Led the acquisition process for the purchase of the department’s first armored vehicle, including
project plan development, research, design, funding, negotiation, purchasing, delivery, and

inspection. Vehicle was secured without utilizing taxpayer dollars and utilized to meet its
objective of ensuring the safety of officers, civilians, and suspects.

Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, New Century, KS 1995-2014
One of the fastest growing Sheriff’s departments in the U.S. with nearly 500 employees and serving more
than 500, 000 citizens.
Captain (2011-2014)
• Served as Commander for Patrol Division, Warrants Unit, and SWAT team.
• Served as Incident Commander, providing leadership on all high priority incidents within the
county and support for incidents involving smaller agencies.
Lieutenant (2008-2011)
•Developed and led Narcotics unit, including overseeing highway interdiction and undercover
narcotics investigations.
•Led Investigations Division, managing detective team in the investigation of computer crimes,
persons crimes, fraud, arson, etc.
Sergeant (2004-2008)
