The MacArthur Foundation has donated a total of 6.5 million dollars to various charitable organizations that benefit the arts. This is meant to shape and fortify the already prevalent artistic community in the Windy City.

2. Recognition is being deservedly given to the MacArthur
Foundation. Having awarded 6.5 million dollars to
Chicago nonprofit organizations revolving around the
arts, the foundation is looking to lend a helping hand to
the Windy City community. In fact, the foundation
articulates three main goals. They are as follows:
1. To support the arts and cultural
infrastructure of the Chicago area through
flexible, multi-year core operating support.
2. To provide funding for special, time-
limited projects and initiatives that
benefits a set of arts organizations or the
sector as a whole.
3. To support projects that contribute to
civic life in Chicago

3. This is the first time all recipients have been of an artistic
inclination. According to a news press, the grants were
restricted to the arts field in order “to strengthen the city’s
vibrant cultural life” and to exhibit “commitment to its

4. Since 1978, the MacArthur Foundation claims
to have donated more than 1,000,000,000
dollars to the Windy City. Over the last ten
years, this work has largely been completed
through dual partnerships with the Prince
Charitable Trusts and the Richard H Driehaus
Foundation. These two generous organizations
donate grants on behalf of MacArthur through
appropriate allocated funds that have been set
aside for that express purpose.

foundation to conclude that
said artistic organizations
benefit from having both core
operating fiscal support as well
as project-based fiscal support.
By attaining both forms of support
simultaneously, these nonprofits are
able to envision and accomplish new
