3. CANADA GAMES POOL & FITNESS CENTRE
Canada Games pool and Fitness centre is located in the upper part of New Westminster. Canada games
pool has pools used for competitions, recreational use and also a full fitness centre upstairs. There are
also basketball hoops and ping pong tables to play with. Plus a sauna.
Canada games pool and fitness centre is a part of the public sector. Which means that’s the public has
full access to use the facility.

“Recreation is a fundamental human need for persons of all ages and is essential to a person’s physical and social
well-being and to overall quality of life” (Ed Lunn, 2020).

5. QUEENSBOROUGH COMMUNITY CENTER
Queensborough community Center is located in Queensborough in between Queen Elizabeth
Elementary School and Queensborough Middle School.
This is central hub for community activities in Queensborough as well as it has a fitness centre, library,
open gym and recreational rooms.
Queensborough community Center is a part of the Public Sector, which means it’s available for everyone.
Queensborough community Center is a “municipal level of government is the level in which the
recreation needs of the general public are directly addressed through the offering of recreation services”
(Ed Lunn, 2020).
Queensborough community Center connects to SPSC 2210 by Physical Education and Recreational.
With the diverse programs that Queensborough community Center has, programs are available to anyone at any
age.
With these programs people of the community or who attend the community centre programs can learn new
things.

Moody Park Arena is located Next to New Westminster Secondary School.
Moody park Arena has one rink which is used for various of sports in the summer and winter.
Moody park Arena is opened to the public for any use so, it’s a part of the Public sector. “To promote
health and well-being through recreation and sport” (Ed Lunn, 2020).
Moody Park Arena connect SPSC 2210 by Recreational use “The responsibility for the provision of
recreation opportunities beyond those supplied by the individual, is shared by all levels of government
and many public, private, and voluntary organizations” (Ed Lunn, 2020).

9. QUEENSBOROUGH MIDDLE SCHOOL
Queensborough Middle School also known as QMS has just over 340 students located in
Queensborough or around the area.
QMS starts from grade 5 to grade 8 although, there is an options to go to New Westminster Secondary
for grade 8 if the student chooses to do so.
QMS is a part of the private sector. QMS“[provides] for a cost; profit oriented. Some, especially in sport
and recreation businesses, serve public good of some kind” (Ed Lunn, 2020) for students.
QMS connects to SPSC 2210 by Physical Education.
Since some students will be learning and refining skills for different sports and activities which they can apply later
to life.

Queen Elizabeth Elementary School is in Queensborough, New Westminster, BC.
Queen Elizabeth Elementary School goes from Kindergarten to Grade 4.
Queen Elizabeth Elementary School is a part of the private sector. Since it “serves public good of some

13. NEW WESTMINSTER SECONDARY SCHOOL
New Westminster Secondary School (NWSS) has around 2000 student which makes it the largest high
school in British Columbia.
NWSS starts from grade 8 to grade 12, there is an adult education program also in the school to get a
GED.
NWSS is a private sector which “[provides] for a cost; profit oriented. Some, especially in sport and
recreation businesses, serve public good of some kind” (Ed Lunn, 2020).
NWSS connects to SPSC 2210 by Physical Education found in classes the students must take and
coaching for when the older students mentor the younger teams.

15. NEW WESTMINSTER MINOR HOCKEY
ASSOCIATION
New Westminster Minor Hockey Association (NWMHA) is a co-ed association but mainly male
dominated. This is the only hockey association in New Westminster. The age range starts at 6 and up to
18 than the player must go to an adult league.
NWMHA is a non-profit/volunteer organization, majority of the funding is raised, and majority of the
staffing is volunteers. “They rely on the efforts of members and volunteers for sustained survival” (Ed
Lun, 2020).
NWMHA connects to SPSC 2210 by having the elements of coaching, recreational and physical
education.
Anyone can be a coach as long as they the proper certification and background checks.
It’s recreational since anyone can join within the age range with any skill level.
It teaches players fundamental skill and development of system plays as well as, having fun.
16. BURNABY/NEW WESTMINSTER RINGETTE

17. BURNABY/NEW WESTMINSTER RINGETTE
Burnaby/New Westminster Ringette (BNWR) is an association formed on two districts since there is a
lack of interest with ringette. Many people don’t know about ringette, so it’s commonly forgotten about.
This association starts from under age 10 to over 18+.
BNWR is a non-profit/volunteer association, majority of the funding is raised in fundraisers and the
coaches/team staff are comprised of parents and ex-players. The association “[relies] on the efforts of
members and volunteers for sustained survival” (Ed Lun, 2020).
BNWR connects to SPSC 2210 by having the elements of coaching, recreational and physical education.
Since majority of the coaches are ex-players there is an opportunity for anyone to coach a team with proper
certification.
It’s recreational from having different division within the league to play at any level no matter the age, which is
different from minor leagues.
Physical education is taught by learning new skill or systems of play.
19. BURNABY WILDCATS FEMALE HOCKEY
In the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) there is a league for just female players starting from
age 4 and up. This is different than a regular minor league since teams allowed to play are female teams
only.
BMHA is a non-profit/volunteer association, team members are usually parents or ex-players.
BMHA connects to SPSC 2210 by having the elements of coaching, recreational and physical education.
For example, a lot of ex-players become assistant or head coaches for the female association to promote women’s
hockey. The association “[relies] on members” (Ed Lunn, 2020).
It’s recreational for the players since in the league there are different division a player can play at if they are
comfortable. If a player wants to play fun or competitively there is an option.
BMHA has also an element of Physical Education, Since the players have to be taught the skills to play.
