A
part from technical glitches, intermittent
network, frozen images and echo sounds, one
most common annoying feature that most
Indians reported during work video conference calls
in India was that of whistles from a pressure cooker.
While we may have laughed off at this during our
conference calls, it certainly poses questions
regarding how ready our homes are for work. The
situation is here to stay for an indefinite time and
needs to be answered.
As the offices shift to homes and the lines between
home and workspaces blur, the Interior Designing
Industry faces new challenges of making homes
more compatible with work from home (WFH)
features. The WFH model, analysts predict will
continue even after the pandemic is over. Most
predict a hybrid mode of work giving companies and
employees the flexibility to work from both office
and home as per the requirement. Accordingly, the
way homes are designed will continue to be a crucial
aspect.
The new normal interiors for homes are predicted to
be flexible and functional. Right from wall colours
that exude a cozy yet energetic feel to furniture that
can serve multiple purposes, the design of a home
will change to accommodate the new requirements.
Colours and patterns that have a relaxing effect on
the mind and help bolster a secure feeling will be
dominant. Flexible partitions, noise-absorbing
curtains, lighting that is easy on eyes and yet bright
enough for video calls will play a crucial role. Flexible,
foldable and multipurpose furniture that can be
equally comfortable to use for work or recreation
purposes will stay in demand.
As for office interiors, maintaining physical
distancing and hygiene will be the priority. The
emphasis will be on how best to utilize the available

The Journey: from Commitment-to-the-Upliftment
The Founder and CEO, Abhishek Chadha graduated
from Delhi University as a Bachelor of Science.
Dedicated and diligent, he aced every one of his
subjects and topped the university. He began his

profession in 2001 as a lecturer in Indonesia, teaching IT. Later
he moved to Bangalore as a senior programming engineer and
advanced forward as the VP where he took a shot at UX & UI.
During this time, Abhishek and his better half - Aashita Chadha
got the interiors of their home done. The entire experience left
them exasperated and inspired with a craving to begin their
design ﬁrm. With the idea of bringing a glorious client
experience and fresh design perspective to the table, they
established the framework of 'The KariGhars'.
Aashita Chadha, the CFO of 'The KariGhars' thought of the
unique name of the ﬁrm and contributes inalienably to the
design ideology. Before long, Abhishek understood his
company's colossal potential and that is the point at which he
got his sibling, Vinayak on board. “Together, they are a force to

The process of designing their own home lead Abhishek
and Aashita to dive in this field of Interior Design. They

designers, artists, artisans, civil and structural
engineers. They have worked on an array of projects
consisting of residences, restaurants, institutional,
manufacturing, retail units, art installations as well as

In an interview with Insights Success, Ar Vipin Bakiwala
shares his company’s vision and other things

Kindly tell us about the company’s vision and mission.
As architects, it is our duty to induce emotions into
space and create an ambiance that brings forth our
hidden calm, positive and spiritual side arising optimism
and sense of purpose. We take it upon us to expand the
Vipin Bakiwala graduated in the

himself during the initial years of his
bachelor's. At the beginning of his
professional journey, he worked in
alliance with his senior pals but later
established his own firm.
He believes that Space designing is
like visual poetry. It is a behavior, a
language that connects a human
with his space; an approach that
reflects his persona into it and makes
him feel complete. An urge to
enlighten the client about his inner
self, discover his emotions, his
connection with nature, and
everything around him, is what

At first, we had a few projects and

painters, poets, sculptors, literature, musicians and
designers who share their expertise and life

in, we first try to know the
client, his likes/dislikes,
grooming, cultural

This gives us food for

materialized through

As much as possible, we encourage the use of locally
available materials, economical and easy to procure;
sustainable materials; harmless materials, paints and
polishes that do not release toxic gases or carry resin
substance, as that could severely affect the health of
workers and other people during and after the work.
We work closely with noteworthy
local artists, craftsmen, and artisans
who play a tremendous role in giving
the project a significant stature and
help augment the interior design
artistically.
What would be your advice for the
budding startups and
entrepreneurs in the industry?
Try to gain profound knowledge
about Indian Architecture
philosophies, design, crafts &
craftsmanship.
Dig into the material details, and understand its touch
and feel in depth. Don’t just follow aesthetics but
strength and longevity too, as these are the key to
sustainable design.
Before working independently, first, gain at least 3-4
years of experience under a senior, working in diverse
projects and materials.
Every client has a different perception and an entirely
different story, thus understand your client first and
then design the space for them.

revamp in the way design now is addressed.
With the massive tech-enabled advancements, what
are the opportunities and challenges evolving with it?
With technology booming up and information and
images of cushy design available at everyone’s
ﬁngertips, it is risker as not all of them are feasible in
every condition. The client is also unaware of the
technologies and the cost involved related to it.
Because of this the responsibility of a Designer has
become further serious and challenging as well.
On the other side there also are some wonderful
software those make the work of an Architect easier as
it creates multidimensional images which gives a
complete idea to the internal team working on it and to
the client as well. It’s now much easier with products
like CAD for drawings, along with SketchUp, 3D max,
rhino to project the designs before they become a
reality. The latest being Virtual Reality where in you
can actually see & feel the space being inside virtually.
What would be your advice for the budding startups
and entrepreneurs in the industry?
Quality in work, long term vision, solidarity towards
the industry, uniqueness in design are things never to
be compromised. They never go out of fashion. The
stronger you hold on to them the better footprint you
shall have. Do your research well, gain good amount of
practical experience before diving in.

Identify your need
India being one of the most diverse
country compared any other nation on
the planet, people here have a very
strong characteristics backed by where
they belong to geographically as well
as the spatial virtue of their living
style. Countless formats of habitable
spaces results into multiple patterns of
behaviour. While the growth factor is
generated by multiple global factors,
one thing that can be observed about

recent spaces in the 21 century is that
it’s ever-changing. Change is governed
by human minds that are working to
get the right mix of work life balance
while trying to establish their own
identity. Once you understand what
you ‘need’ is when you become the
true mascot of your own mind.
Ones clarity of mind and thoughts can
lead to the experience, exploration of
various things around him and it gives
a new direction of thought. Counter
stereotypes is solution we look for in a
well-informed world we represent
today.
Understand the Phenomenon of
Change:
Last two decades witnessed a strong
growth in every sector, inclusion of
global to local, from an incredible
adaptation of technology to the ever
changing landscapes of our cities. We
touched the peak of growth that was
never seen before, collaborations
rocked the world and we gave rise to
many industries. It may be debatable to
say whether we established a reformed
way of living or lost the values from
old. All in all is the phenomenon of
change that’s inevitable.
Workspaces transformed from merely a
few desks to the magnificent footprints
housing thousands of workstations in a
corporate environment connecting
world at a single click. Designers took
the challenge to create this new
environment in the most sustainable
way while catering to the cut throat
demands from the stakeholders. So

continues to change, embrace the

synonymous to each other. While you
grow, you evolve and the evolved
version of yourself helps you to further
grow. From beginning of this century,
one thing that we have prominently
witnessed is the Evolution! Designers
strive to provide appropriate spaces
that nurture human value and focus
was on productivity too. Nurture
values and productivity will be taken
care anyways. Many examples we have
established that continues to inspire
our minds and a perfect balance can be
achieved. Talking about buildings in
today’s context, it’s an economic
vehicle. To run it smoothly, it must
address the change and adopt to new
use to be future proof.
Sustainability and adaptability:
Adaptable also means sustainable, look
for sustainability on a very broader
aspects of planning principles,
integration with context and response
to urban fabric. All this is the backbone
to any built format. Application based
sustainability will eventually follow. If
you are so much concerned about the
present alone, you will end up building
something that may become redundant
in an ever-changing scenario the world
is going through. The world has seen
such examples post WWII. Cities,
urban areas and building must exist
coherently to embrace the change and
give a clear insight for future. Define
sustainability in its true sense.
Future of Buildings and spaces:
Some of the basic needs of human
lives are never going to change, what
may change is the perception of it.
Buildings and spaces have always been
an integral part of our lives for
centuries and it will continue to be
even more important aspect in the time
to come as we tend to explore more
indoors than outdoors. The article is
aiming to demonstrate a process of
identifying ones need, understanding
the change phenomenon and evolve
with sustainable measures. As a
country we have witnessed a massive
inclusion of numerous spaces in last 2
decades and it is with a careful
consideration, we find ways to put a
rational aspect of our future growth

A Passionate Architect

its Director, Ar. Vishal Deshmukh.
Vishal completed his architecture from
D.Y. Patil College of Engineering and
Technology, Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
After that, he took experience of 4

firms in the profession.
Vishal is member of I.I.A registered
with C.O.A. He is also a chartered
member of I.I.V, practicing as an

field. While learning he understood
that every aspect, environment, cost
and material to be used, etc. needs to
be considered while designing.
Vishal is passionate about designing
everything in more detail with
innovation. His aim is to do captivating
works in Marathwada region to
enhance its potential and beauty. He
wishes to do landmark monumental
projects, which can have impact on
individual and can become inspiration
to designers.
Source of Inspiration
As a designer, Vishal feels proud to be
in such a noble profession. He was
eager since his early college days to
grab opportunity in the field of design
after some practical experience.
It was the inspiration of many avid
designers and historical structures that
drew him to work in field of
architecture. The more impact was of
Ar. Shirish Berry for his uniqueness
and humbleness in his design, and Ar.
Hafeez Contractor for his passion
while working on every
project.
For new design, he always
finds inspiration from heritage
buildings while travelling. He
always felt that those buildings
had less opportunity and more
limitations though they were
marvelous.
When asked about his most
challenging project, Vishal
mentioned that it was a meditation
center, as to grab the concept as a
hindu meditator with relation to
society. He believes that the
well-designed building can inspire
individuals to get attracted towards
meditation and feel peace in
surroundings.
An Abundance of Material
According to Vishal, currently, there is
an abundance of material available in
market, so he feels more liberty while
designing which will create and
transform architecture in future and
prospective in interiors and landscape
as well. In Vishal’s opinion, concept
design on site conditions, software and
tools are also helping his team a lot to
present design in right way.
At a Personal Level
Every project undertaken by Studio
165 is designed, executed, and looked
after at a personal level. Vishal and his
team constantly discuss every minute
detail of the clients’ requirement
through the meetings and serve them
appropriate concepts as per the needs.
They even involve them in the concept
and demand while designing. This way,
clients are also able to understand the
importance of good design with respect
to commercial value of the business.

Firstly, his team does a systematic site analysis
and understands the scope of design in the given
site conditions. Then they prepare a conceptual
design based on the inputs given by the client and
get it approved by the client. After that, they
discuss and finalize the final outcome, in regards
with the estimate, look & feel, and finishes etc.
Then they coordinate with all the consultants and
prepare service coordination drawing and a
detailed working drawing. They visit sites on

technical visit times and keep the
clients updated about the project
progress. They finish the project by
handing over set of all drawings to
the client for his future references.

Another challenge is to create environment friendly designs
to balance with nature. Vishal believes that if architects are
able to design each building sensibly with proper
percentage of landscape in it, it will lift the aesthetical value
of the country.
Secondly, he also mentions that concrete and glass should
be replaced or re-designed with different materials to reduce
environmental heat, as energy efficient buildings concept
are more deserving.
Futuristic Aspirations
Studio 165 is constantly seeking new construction
innovations and technologies, providing its clients with
predictable, reliable and collaborative services. In future,
Vishal wishes to do monumental buildings which can have
its aesthetical impact forever.
In his advice to the people who are just starting out in
architecture and design, he says, “Don’t think about
competition and think about level of design and try to
become yourself. Create your own designs and feel proud
as a designer.”
