University. He started his career
immediately in the international arena.

Right after college, he joined a group
that automated Kuala Lumpur stock
exchange and in just a year and a half
with this group, he learnt the entire
business of trading and proposed and
developed a paperless trading
automation system – one of the first in
the world.
With this knowledge, Raj then moved
to the USA and for the next eight
years, he worked with a consulting
company called as CBSI expanding his
business skills - operating in multiple
businesses.
With the confidence and skills, he
developed in these years, Raj
established his first system integration
company. The company established
captive centres for Franklin Templeton
and Invesco in Hyderabad. The
company also built a reference data
management framework for capital
markets which is adopted by several
market leaders.
This company was acquired by Ness
Technologies - a publicly listed, global
company with about 1 billion-dollars
in gross revenues. Raj then spent about
four years working at Ness
Technologies heading their Global
Financial Services unit and
consolidating their global operations.
Raj then left Ness Technologies and
started another company which
focused on infrastructure services.
Within one year of operations, this
company was acquired by Mphasis,
which enhanced their service offerings
by adding this unit.
In the year 2014, he established Innova
Solutions which was then acquired by
ACS (American Cyber Systems) in
2019 as part of its strategic global
growth plan.

The journey was remarkably
interesting because the landscape of
technology was continually changing.
The adoption of cloud, Software as a
Service (SaaS), Platform as a service
(PaaS), Infrastructure as a Service
(IaaS), and low-code maintenance was
evolving during that time. Enterprises
were looking to adapting those recent
technologies to either optimize the
current business or transform, enhance,
and expand new lines of businesses.
Nobody was using technology the
traditional way. Cost optimization is
not the biggest thing that they have
been looking at. It was tougher for Raj
to go to his past customers and say, “I
can help you transform and modernize
by doing cloud enablement”
The question from the customer’s side
was, “You might have hundreds of
cloud certified engineers, but they all
have an average experience of two to
three years. They have no idea of my
existing environment, that we have
built up over the last 30 years, in the
enterprise. How are you going to take
us through the transformation
journey?”
To answer this, Raj went to the
marketplace with an established,
proven leadership team that had both
legacy experience and the expertise of
how to transform the businesses. He
hired five of his previous customer
leaders. With that team, Raj was able
to say, “We understand legacy systems,
we know how to take you through this
transformation. Give us the
opportunity to prove what we are
saying.”
Today, as a member of the leadership
team of the ACS group, he runs a
hundred-million-dollar business.
Innova continues to run operations as
an independent business unit as part of
the ACS group. This has been the
journey of Rajkumar, a serial
entrepreneur.

When Raj started his first company,
lack of experience was the major
challenge. He was overly excited to
become an entrepreneur. He learnt that
there was a lot of competition and this
influenced the development of his core
principles - be extremely focused,
know who your potential customers are
going to be, who is going to be
leveraging your capabilities, and who
should be the target for delivering your
services. He also learnt that even
though there are many opportunities
available, it is critical to narrow down
and to be focused on core services /
product business. The vision and
visibility must be clearly defined.
With this leadership, ACS group’s
Innova Solutions is aggressively
transforming to be a visible brand
among solution providers. As part of
the ACS group, Innova Solutions has
access to large enterprise customers
that ACS has developed in the business
over 35 years. Many relationships with
financial services, healthcare, and the

Cloud computing is the on-demand supply of IT
resources through the Internet at a pay-as-you-go
model. Instead of purchasing, operating, and
maintaining physical data centres and servers, you may use
a cloud provider like Amazon Web Services (AWS) to
obtain technological services such as processing power,
storage, and databases on an as-needed basis.
A few examples of the variety of applications that
organizations of all sizes, types, and sectors are using for
cloud computing are – data backup, disaster recovery,
email, virtual desktops, software development and testing,
big data analytics, and customer-facing web applications.
The cloud is being used by financial services firms to
support real-time fraud detection and prevention. In
addition, video game developers are utilizing the cloud to
provide online games to millions of gamers all over the
world.

The cloud provides simple access to a wide range of

On-Premises:
The term ‘private cloud’ refers to the use of virtualization

traditional IT infrastructure, with the addition of application

How are you driving innovation in

Cloud has become a rapid innovation
enabler in the past few years, and we,
with the help of partners such as AWS,
have managed to optimize the benefits
of cloud to drive innovation for its
clients.
This is achieved by using the cloud to
automate different service elements for
our clients in the realm of IT or
Business processes. By focusing on
building use cases for automation,
adopting dev-ops, and creating POCs
for our clients that can be quickly
moved from pilot to production, we
manage to create innovative solutions
for our clients in terms of GTM
business opportunities and improved
end-user experience.
Being a leader, what was the greatest
piece of advice that you have
followed?
Sustaining and growing a business in
an ever-changing ecosystem is never
easy. We followed the most significant
piece of advice is 'always keep your
eyes open and ears to the ground'. It
essentially meant that as a company,
we have always been quick to spot
green shoot trends, tested them,
invested in the successful ones, and
scaled them as required. This advice
has never failed us to date.
Many IT companies spot the trends and
shifts in IT but are scared to adapt to
them. In the case of Ahana, though, we
have ensured that we take quick
decisions when it comes to adapting to
trends that can lead to growth. As a
result, we have been able to gear up
our service offerings around Cloud,
RPA, Analytics, and AI/ML.
What are the dynamics of Ahana
and AWS?

works very closely with AWS to work
for its enterprise and SMB clients.

you?
Anything that makes my life better is
what I consider innovation. Anything
that can be looked into can be
developed and turned into something
that can make our today better than
yesterday, our tomorrow better than
today. As long as it is in a positive
direction in terms of time, cost or
efficiency and impacts our lives, it can
be termed innovation.

How are you enhancing the
application of cloud computing being
used in businesses?
Ahana's clients for cloud computing
fall into two categories. The first
category is the ones who come in with
knowledge of the cloud or intent to
move to the cloud. The second
category of clients is those who have
been with us for years and want to
move to the cloud from their existing
on-premises infra. For both sets of
customers, we take the responsibility to
educate them on the cloud and its
benefits.
Understanding how cloud works, how
the adoption of cloud can help save
Capex and Opex, how scale-up can
happen at a fraction of time that was
required earlier - are ultimately the
benefits that need to be communicated
to every client. We at Ahana ensure
that we educate our clients on the
benefits of cloud computing and clarify
cloud-related security concerns to each
of our clients.
We also try and make them
comfortable with all aspects of cloud
computing by creating proof of
concept that demonstrates the benefits.
Ultimately, most clients need hand-
holding to start their cloud journey.
Being a leader, what will you say to
the young generation who are keen
on entering the cloud computing or
AWS space?
For new-gen start-ups, the cloud is the
only way to go. Cloud computing
providers provide exclusive support in
the form of technical know-how and
support to test, setup, and aim for rapid
scale. They also offer start-up credits
for server usage, which is a massive
help for those who are just getting
started. These initiatives have turned
out to be a major booster for the
growth of start-ups in India.
In the case of new-gen IT Infra service
companies, though, the cloud is a vast
area, and they need to understand
every service line that cloud computing
providers as AWS provide. For
example, many companies just focus
and provide workplace management,
and one can build a business with just
that. They must take the time to find
their niche and build in a small way
and scale it up by making their
offerings and expertise slowly and
steadily. Cloud computing and AWS
will definitely give assured returns that
the young generation is looking for if
they do it the right way.
How IT, ITES, and AWS space is
positioned to grow in India?
Pandemic and the resultant shift to all
things digital has ensured that the IT,
ITES, and AWS space is poised to
grow at an exceptionally robust rate
shortly. The cloud market was valued
at INR 301.40 Bn in 2020 and is
expected to expand at a compound
annual growth rate (CAGR) of
~29.02% during the 2021 - 2025 period
to reach INR 1,169.23 Bn by 2025.

In our view, the premise of 'Digital
India' is entirely centred on IT, and this
requirement transcends across
industries. Whether it is public sector
or government institutions or the
current insanely dynamic start-up
ecosystem in India, the 'Digital India'
mandate has created the usual frenzy
and the resultant expected growth for
IT, ITES, and AWS space and will
continue to do so.
How do you think AWS will impact
the world in the future?
In the coming years, the cloud will
impact the world in terms of how
things will be utilised and used in
every aspect when it comes to IT. This
is hugely transformational. AWS is the
largest and the most prominent cloud
provider with close to 30% market
adaptability, is undoubtedly poised to
impact the world in general. AWS and
its parent company are highly
innovative companies and are bound to
introduce services and products that
will continue to transform and impact
the world in the future.

AWS was founded in 2006 as an extension of the
internal infrastructure created by Amazon.com to
support its online retail activities. AWS was among
the first businesses to provide a pay-as-you-go cloud
computing model, which grows to give users computation,
storage, or throughput as needed.
AWS provides a wide range of tools and solutions for
businesses and software developers that may be utilised in
data centres in over 190 countries. AWS services are
available to government agencies, educational institutions,
NGOs, and commercial organisations.
AWS is divided into several services, each of which may be
customised differently depending on the needs of the
customer. For an AWS service, users should be able to
access configuration choices as well as specific server
mappings.
The Amazon Web Services portfolio includes more than
100 services, including computing, databases, infrastructure
management, application development, and security. These
services are classified as follows:

Availability
Amazon Web Services offers services from dozens of data
centres located in various availability zones (AZs) across
the world. An AZ is a place that houses several physical
data centres. A region is a collection of AZs that are
geographically close together and are linked by low-latency
network links.

A company will select one or more availability zones for a
few reasons, including compliance and proximity to end
users. For example, an AWS client can spin up virtual
machines (VMs) and duplicate data across AZs to create a
highly dependable architecture that is resilient to individual
server or data centre outages.
Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2) is a service that
delivers compute power in the form of virtual computers
known as EC2 instances. The EC2 service provides
hundreds of instance kinds with various capacities and
sizes, each targeted to a certain workload type or
application, such as memory-intensive or accelerated-
computing workloads. AWS also offers an Auto Scaling tool
for dynamically scaling capacity to keep instances healthy
and performing well.
Storage
Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is a scalable object
storage service used for backup data, collection, and
analytics. To keep data and files structured, an IT expert
saves them as S3 objects, which may be up to 5 gigabytes
(GB) – within S3 buckets. For long-term cold storage,
businesses can save money by using Amazon S3's
Infrequent Access storage tier or Amazon Glacier.
When utilising EC2 instances, Amazon Elastic Block Store
provides block-level storage volumes for permanent data
storage. Amazon Elastic File System provides cloud-based
file storage that is managed.
A company may also transfer data to the cloud using
storage transport devices like AWS Snowball and
Snowmobile or utilise AWS Storage Gateway to provide
on-premises programmes access to cloud data.
Database and Data management
The Amazon Relational Database Service provides a
relational database management system for AWS users,
including choices for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL,
MySQL, MariaDB, and a proprietary high-performance
database called Amazon Aurora. AWS also provides
managed NoSQL databases via Amazon DynamoDB.
As in-memory and real-time data caches for applications,
AWS customers can utilise Amazon ElastiCache and
DynamoDB Accelerator. Amazon Redshift provides a data
warehouse, which allows data analysts to execute business
intelligence (BI) activities more easily.
Migration and hybrid cloud
AWS provides several tools and services to help users in
migrating servers, applications, databases, and data to its
public cloud. The AWS Migration Hub is a hub for
monitoring and managing migrations from on-premises to
the cloud. EC2 Systems Manager, once in the cloud, assists
an IT team in configuring on-premises servers and AWS
instances.
Amazon has also formed alliances with a number of
technology suppliers to facilitate hybrid cloud installations.
VMware Cloud on AWS brings VMware's software-defined
data centre technologies to Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Another collaboration resulted in Red Hat Enterprise Linux
for Amazon EC2, which extends Red Hat's operating
system to the AWS cloud.
Networking
An Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) offers an
administrator control over a virtual network that uses an
isolated part of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.
AWS automatically creates new resources within a VPC,
for further security.
The Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) service, which
comprises the Application Load Balancer and Network
Load Balancer, allows administrators to balance network
traffic. AWS also suggests a domain name system known as
Amazon Route 53, which directs end users to applications.
A dedicated link from an on-premises data centre to the
AWS cloud may be established by an IT expert using AWS
Direct Connect.
Management and monitoring
AWS Config and AWS Config Rules allow administrators to
control and track cloud resource settings. These
technologies, together with AWS Trusted Advisor, can
assist an IT team in avoiding incorrectly configured and
unnecessary cloud resource installations.
AWS's portfolio includes a number of automation tools.
AWS CloudFormation templates may be used to automate
infrastructure provisioning, while AWS OpsWorks and Chef
can be used to automate infrastructure and system settings.
AWS customers may utilise Amazon CloudWatch and the
AWS Personal Health Dashboard to monitor resource and
application health, as well as AWS CloudTrail to retain user
activity and API requests for audits.

What kind of challenges has Codewave Technology

infrastructure to the AWS cloud is a smart decision but
needs expert cloud professionals to do it in a secure and
efficient way. Vendor lock-in is another challenge, not
specific to AWS, in the cloud ecosystem.
How much was your Codewaves affected in the
pandemic? What were the steps taken by you to curb
the damages, all the while helping your clients and
maintaining the safety of your employees?
Early 2020 was a period of high uncertainty, not just for the
Codewave but for everyone on the planet. As soon as we
realized the threat, we immediately went remote. It was a
big challenge adapting to the new normal. The team
responded well; thanks to our culture, we were quite
resilient and quickly adapted to the remote situation.
Timely and Peerly - our internal apps for project
collaboration turned out to be really helpful. In fact, now
we are a hybrid organization. A good number of people
continue to work remotely post the pandemic.
For clients, everything was smooth. There were no
escalations at all. All our solutions are built in the cloud, so
there were not many challenges when it came to operations.
Lastly, hiring and onboarding new members became a little
tricky too. But with time, we have aced this as well.
What would you like to advise the young generation and
entrepreneurs?
Be more agile and resilient. Every aspect of the business is
important, but as an entrepreneur focusing on people and
company culture as much as on operations and finances.
This is going to be helpful in the long run.
Where do you envision your Codewave to be in the long
run, and what are your future goals?
This year we have hit USD 1M+ in ARR, and we continue
to grow sustainably. We are always at the forefront when it
comes to flirting with new technologies, and the long-term
goals are to continue doing the same, while we build highly
scalable digital solutions for our partners and the most
democratic, self-managed, and social work in the world.
What is the current industrial scenario of AWS and the
IT solutions sector?
IT outsourcing is a USD 92.5 billion business, and the
cloud business is a USD 396 billion opportunities. The
industry is growing at a healthy rate. The technology-led
innovation is at its peak with an edge, 5G, XR, and
Blockchain opening the new avenues to growth. The
awareness of design thinking is also improving and is a
good sign as that means there will be fewer solutions to
usability issues. Design thinking is a must for every
business, irrespective of whether they are into IT or not.
