4. • To take up the greatest project in
the history of HKBK College of
Engineering, Team Buraq was
brought about in July 2014
• The project involves design,
development and fabrication of a
formula type racing car for the
International level FSAE
competition to be held in Italy 2016
based on FSAE standards.
• A Team comprising of 12 members
from different branches of the
college has pioneered this project
along with the help of few staff
members of the college.

5. Achieving success in this project would further help us to improvise our
knowledge and fabricate our own racing cars.
We aspire to continue this legacy of building several cars of this kind through our
future batches and improving ourselves involving more students who dream to
achieve like we do.
It would motivate several aspiring students of our college who dream about the
same vision.
It would also uplift our college and country to an international level.
Bridging the gap between industries and the college students.
To improvise both the technical and marketing skills of a student.
Our Vision
5
6. The objective of the competition is to
provide SAE student members with a
challenging project that involves
designing, planning, manufacturing
and marketing the tasks found when
introducing a new product to the
consumer industrial market and to
extract the best from each engineer.
Each student team has to design, build
and test a formula-type racing car and
drive it at the main event.
SAE is a non-profit educational and
scientific organization dedicated to
advancing mobility technology to better
serve humanity.
It conducts several competitions every
year including Formula SAE (FSAE).

17. Progress and Success so far
As per the rules and regulations of the FSAE competition, we
selected the appropriate material for the chassis and have completed the
welding and fabrication.
We used mild steel, 16 gauge as the material for the chassis. We fabricated
the chassis using arc welding. The analysis for the chassis was carried out in
Ansys workbench.
Three tests are :-
• Static shear
• Lateral Bending
• Torsional bending
We also manufactured the steering system with the best
specifications most suitable for formula style racing cars in Coimbatore.
For temporary analysis, we purchased four tyres 155/65 R13 73T along with
the hubs. The design of the upright is complete in CATIA software and ready
for manufacture.

18. …cntd
• The tie rods of the steering system will be manufactured according to the
required dimensions after which the upright will be fixed to it. Once the
setup is complete, the unequal double A-arms for holding the upright will
be welded to the chassis.
• The shock absorbers will be aligned according to the measurements for
maximum efficiency.
• The rocker arms will be designed on Catia and analysis will be done on
Ansys again.
• As students, we have spent a total of Rs. 60,000 on fabrication and
purchase of the chassis, steering system, suspension design and tyres for
testing.
