  3. PamThere is work to do to fully integrate and have the views of Children and Young people on Healthwatch. Work has started on this but it will take a few months to get this right. We are taking our time because we are serious and passionate about the involvement of CYPWe are spending the next few months developing volunteer roles, policies and sourcing appropriate training for them. We want volunteers to receive the same support and training as staffWe have an Interim Governing Body made up of a good mix of individuals. However there are gaps and we are working to look at how we can incorporate the views of other groups and communities such as BME. Looking to recruit a full GB by March next year. We also have a few priority areas- it worth noting that some of these priorities are longer term and also need to be explored further.Access to GPs- work has started around this and the HW team are doing some work with GP’s to discover what is already happening to improve accessMental Health- Transitional services for 16-18 year olds we know is an issue but apart from this work is needed to explore other priorities within this area

PamNHS 111 we have already written an article about 111 and Healthwatch Sheffield are representing South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Healthwatch’s on the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw 111 Clinical Quality Steering Group.Complaints/Compliments & Access to information- One of the most common bits of feedback we are hearing at the moment is that people don’t know where to go or how to access information. Including complaining or passing on their compliments. We are going to concentrate on bringing some of this together, doing joint publicity and working with partners to create other materialsASC- There have been comments raised around increasing concerns around ASC services. Also given that the Council is entering into a conversation with the public about ASC services Healthwatch wanted to add to this work by doing some work on this and feeding it’s views into the Council.
  5. JasonHealthwatch is the voice of patients, public and service users on the Health and Wellbeing Board. We will represent their views when decisions need to be made and bring issues to the HWB as and when appropriate. Membership of the health and wellbeing board (HWB) presents an opportunity for local Healthwatch to be at the centre of decision-making on the strategic direction for commissioning health and social care. The LHW representative on the health and wellbeing board will need to provide a two-way channel of communication between LHW and the HWB and will need to be both a credible, representative voice of and accountable to LHW and the wider communityHealthwatch should support and be involved in the work that underpins the Health and Wellbeing Strategy. It is here that we believe that we can have some key influence. It’s an opportunity for the HWB and Healthwatch to seek the views of local people about issues. Healthwatch should support and drive elements of the HWB engagement activity and strategy. The challenge is for HW to maintain it’s independence also. It’s also an opportunity for the public to potentially engage directly with the board. A mapping exercise to understand the existing community engagement networks for the area will be beneficial to the HWB in developing its community engagement strategyHWS should be involved in developing the joint strategic needs assessment (JSNA) and the joint health and wellbeing strategy(JHWS) provides an extensive ongoing opportunity for community engagement through LHW and the community andvoluntary sector.Inclusion- HWS is also about inclusion, equality and fairness and we have a role to ensure the HWB ensure this in everything they do. We see direct links with Sheffield’s Fairness Commission.Quality Assurance- Healthwatch hold regular meetings with NHS England and CQC sharing information and intelligence about Health and Social Care services in Sheffield. This again underpins work that is commissioned and set out under the Health and Wellbeing strategy to ensure local people have a say and have some influence. Scrutiny- as described in the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy, we will ensure that the HWB and its work truly benefits the people of Sheffield. A key question is how can we compliment and not duplicate the role of elected members and Council’s Scrutiny Panels?
  6. PamAdding value- You have the fairness commission and others such as council scrutiny panels etc that ensure that things are done in the right way. There is enormous potential for duplication. How can we ensure this does not happen?
