4.

manipulate data stored in Resource Description Framework (RDF) format.
Standards for creating Ontologies
15. Domain Specific Ontology
• A domain ontology (or domain-specific ontology) represents concepts
which belong to part of the world. Particular meanings of terms
applied to that domain are provided by domain ontology. For
example, the word card has many different meanings. An ontology
about the domain of poker would model the "playing card" meaning
of the word, while an ontology about the domain of computer
hardware would model the "punched card" and "video card"
meanings.
• At present, merging ontologies is area of research which is still largely
theoretical.
16. Ontology vs Class Hierarchy
• Ontologies resemble class hierarchies in object-oriented
programming but there are several critical differences.
• Class hierarchies are meant to represent structures used in source
code that evolve fairly slowly (typically monthly revisions) whereas
ontologies are meant to represent information on the Internet and
are expected to be evolving almost constantly.
• Similarly, ontologies are typically far more flexible as they are meant
to represent information on the Internet coming from all sorts of
heterogeneous data sources. Class hierarchies on the other hand are
meant to be fairly static and rely on far less diverse and more
structured sources of data such as corporate databases
18. Assignment

specific ontology.
• Publish it on web with .owl extension.
• Run SPARQL query on Ontology to retrieve information.
