 He Was Born On 15 October 1931 Into a
Middle-class Tamil Family In The Island Of
Rameswaram In The Erstwhile Madras
State. His Father’s Name Was Jainulabdeen,
And Mother Was Ashiamma. He Was Indian
scientist and politician who played a leading
role in the development of India's missile
and nuclear weapons programs. He was
president of India from 2002 to 2007

• He spent hours on his studies,
especially mathematics. After
completing his education at
the Schwartz Higher Secondary
School, Ramanathapuram, Kalam
went on to attend Saint Joseph's
College, Tiruchirappalli, then
affiliated with the University of
Madras, from where he graduated in
physics in 1954

 Dr. Kalam was also the first
Indian Head of State to fly a
fighter plane. His first
aeronautical project led him to
designing India's first indigenous
hovercraft 'Nandi”. The former
President also made a
remarkable contribution in the
health sector of the country. In
the early 90s, he collaborated
with cardiologist B.

 Dr Kalam was known as the
Missile Man of India owing to his
role in the making of missiles like
Agni and Prithvi for India. He
received the Bharat Ratna award-
India's highest civilian honour,
among other numerous prestigious
awards. Aged 83, Dr APJ Abdul
Kalam died from a cardiac arrest on
27 July 2015
