. The history of Guatemala is the chronology of events that occurred
from the beginning of the original human settlement in the current
territory of the Republic of Guatemala to the present day. This
begins with the first groups of people to inhabit the region, of which
the Mayan civiliza�on stands out.
The Spanish conquerors arrived in Guatemala in 1523. Hernán
Cortés named the city of Guatemala, in his letter of relationship
addressed to Carlos V, dated in Mexico on October 15, 1524. Cortés
refers to “some cities of which there were many days that I have
news that are called Ucatlán and Guatemala ». The region went on to
form the Captaincy General of Guatemala, attached to the
Viceroyalty of New Spain..
La historia de Guatemala es la cronología de sucesos acaecidos desde el
comienzo del primigenio poblamiento humano en el actual territorio de
la República de Guatemala hasta nuestros días. Esta comienza con los
primeros grupos de personas en habitar la región, de las que se destaca
la civilización maya.
Los conquistadores españoles llegaron a Guatemala en 1523. Hernán
Cortés nombró a la ciudad de Guatemala, en su carta de relación
dirigida a Carlos V, fechada en México el 15 de octubre del 1524.
Cortés se refiere a «unas ciudades de que muchos días había que yo
tengo noticias que se llaman Ucatlán y Guatemala». La región pasó a
formar la Capitanía General de Guatemala, adscrita al Virreinato de la
Nueva España..

Once the capital of one of the most
powerful kingdoms of the ancient
Mayans, it undoubtedly
corresponds to one of the most
fascinating tourist places in
Guatemala for archeology lovers, a
city founded around the 5th century
BC, which would have reached its
maximum splendor between 200
and 900 AD, dominating much of
the region politically, economically
and militarily.

Semuc Champey y las Cuevas de Lankin, departamento de Alta
Verapaz:

accidente natural donde el Río Cahabón
fluye por una longitud de 300 metros bajo
la roca, dejando en la superficie un grupo
de pozas escalonadas de aguas turquesas y
calmas con profundidades de entre 1 a 3
metros, en las cuales es posible bañarse
rodado de un exuberante bosque tropical..
