5. THE BREXIT REFERENDUM
23rd June 2016 – Referendum
The question - “Should the United
Kingdom remain a member of the
European Union or leave the
European Union?”
7. SO WHAT DOES THE EUROPEAN UNION
INFLUENCE?
-Key areas – Agriculture, fisheries, external trade and the environment.
-But also free movement of people within the EU.
8. THE REMAIN GROUP – DAVID CAMERON,
THERESA MAY, PRESIDENT OBAMA
Need to protect the economy – Too much risk (£100 bn and 1 million jobs)
Uncertainty – businesses like stability
More secure on the EU – we are only a small country.
Easy for holidays – health care, passport control etc.
Family income to fall £4300 and save £350 per year on food shopping.
9. BREXIT CAMP – BORIS JOHNSON, MICHAEL
GOVE.
Control immigration – taking our jobs, places in schools and pressure on the NHS
Make Britain great again – own trade deals
Rejecting the establishment – telling us what to do…
Lower prices – not limited to Europe but world prices
Reject Brussels and the amount we pay in - £350 million every week.
10. YOU ARE THE ONES TO FEEL THE IMPACT –
GOOD OR BAD
• We can all have opinions. The important thing is to have
evidence to back it up and empathise with other peoples
points of view.
• Nobody knows the real impact.
• Listen to the trade negotiations going on – they are
accused of not knowing what the strategy is as well!
